Hello everyone!
There was a problem with the left Switch Oled joycon. It is perfectly visible as a set-top box and works both docked and in wireless mode. The problem is that it doesn't charge. The console is new from the store. The owner of the console gave it to me to install HWFLY. Problem number two is that it is not known whether the problem occurred before or after the installation. The person did not check the console after buying it in the store.
There is a component with the designation 4N8 next to the connector of the loop of the left joycon. I compared the readings on this console with the readings on the working one. On the working console at the input (where there are 3 contacts), the voltage is 5.2 v, at the output (where there are 2 on the side of the joycon connector) - 4.7 V. I will attach a photo with a transcript. At this output - 0v, the charge on the joycon does not correspondingly arrive. I put this part 4N8 from working to problematic - the voltage did not appear. So it's not about him. Who has any thoughts on this issue?

Capacitor ratings next to 4N8: 0201 - 100 nf, 0603 - 1 uf

I presume you have checked that the joycon is charging on another Switch?

The 4N8 is a lineair voltage regulator.
It could have been broken already.
These components cost about a $1 to replace.

Have you checked what the input voltage is (the side with 3 pins; pin 1 = voltage; pin 2 = GND)?
Pin 3 should also be high else the regulator will not output any voltage.
The Switch does control this pin 3 (EN) and decides to turn on/off charging.
I presume it does read the battery level over USB from the joycon.

thesjaakspoiler - thank you for a quick and informative answer! I updated the photo in the first post - now it will be more and more clear. Of course I checked both Joycon and the rail. It is obvious that there is no power supply on a non -working prefix on 5 contacts (3 photos). On the side where the power supply (where 3 contacts) the voltage is normal - 5.2 V, at the output of the workplace - 4.7 V (5 PIN, 3 Photo). As I understand it, under the control contact, do you mean 4 in my photo? I tried to trace where he was going (4 photos) but could not do it. In diode mode, he shows an open line. Or do you mean under the 1 PIN manager in my photo, in diode mode - 0.56? Can you tell me, what is the 4N8 LineAir Voltage Regulator alternative? By name 4N8, of course, nothing was found.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
