I don't want people to think an XL now is a bad buy. Or any other DS really. It will almost certainly still be an active platform. You are only missing out on 3DS game compatibility, and maybe not always that either. The 3DS vs. DS issue depends on developer response, there is minimal justification for the ongoing "3DS will kill DS" meme.

I couldn't disagree more, the DS is already starting to flounder and the DSi hasn't done anything I can see to revive the market or bring devs back. The only way the DS will still be active is w/ homebrew and shovelware like the end days of the GBA.

Remember, the DS wasn't supposed to kill the Game Boy brand... But it did.

But then, why would they have released the 3DS so soon after the DSiXL's release? It's like a trick to get more money.

Nintendo orignally didn't plan on pushing 3DS into the market so early. But because of the imminent news leak in Japan and poor sale on DSi, they announced 3DS.

Point is that having a DSi XL is a good investment. It is still several months (possibly a year) before 3DS hit the market.

Don't know why this thread turned into DSi vs 3DS debate.

I really just wish there'd still be standard DS games after the 3DS. It bums me out that it came out so soon.

I wouldn't call it soon. Disregarding the DSi, the DS has been out for 6 years. The GBA had only been around for about 4 years when they released the DS so it wasn't really a surprise to see the 3DS announced this year.

How many years did GBA games keep coming out after the DS was released?
I'd expect a similar situation with the DS after the 3DS comes out.

Just to clarify a few things:
3dsvspsp.png

As they were saying, the 3DS is just a new DS model right? ¬ ¬
A new model capable of 1 billion pixels per second more than the PSP.

I'd love to see how the DS could run the new RE:

And yes, Capcom has confirmed that these are ingame graphics.

Nobody said it could.

3DS does two things that you can't with an XL. It has 3D and it has extra sensors.

QUOTEIt's much more like PS3 Slim versus PS3, if Move was somehow only compatible with Slim.

QUOTE
It does have updated processors - which is great seeing as we're talking console-type devices and the extra speed won't do crap for DS titles. It's just there to enable the double-render for the 3D display and to provide some extra oomph to support 3DS-only titles. The "improved" capabilities you speak of are meaningless outside that context, and the XL still has a bigger screen.

Like I said before, I'm just clearing some things.

Do you think it'll still be supported after the 3DS's release? I mean, my DSLite was broken, so I bought myself a DSiXL. But now, I'm wondering: Was my purchase a dumbass move?

WHY didn't you wait for the $20 price cut in September?

Do you think I knew back then? And seriously, it's just 20 bucks.

I bought a DSi XL at launch, despite knowing that the 3DS could be announced this E3.

My old DSi was with the R button broken, I thought that selling it and buying the DSi XL would be easier then to sell it later to acquire a 3DS.

Incorrect. The DSi will be released in most countries before the end of the year (so before 2011).

You mean the 3DS, right? Will be released before the end of the fiscal year of 2010 that ends march, 2011.

Again, that is just guesses. We have to wait until Nintendo announce the release date. Keep in mind the design has not finalize yet. So anything could happen.

I believe Reggie said on a certain show that the 3DS was to be released before the end of the real year.

Your knowledge is not up-to-date, apparently.

I must've missed that. Source?

It's not surprising people get confused.
Nintendo stated earlier this year that the 3DS was getting released before the end of this fiscal year which meant between April 2010 and March 2011. I'm not sure what regions though. But we can be 100% sure that it gets released in at least one region before March. I wouldn't be surprised if it would be out in Japan, Europe and North America by then and maybe even out in one or more regions by the end of this year.
