To make a blank cheat.dat, all you have to do is create a new text document and rename it to cheat.dat.

One Hot
If you are wondering what that tick box marked "One Hot" does, let me explain... Some cheat codes can be used in game by pressing a certain button, e.g. Press X for Green Shell. However, there maybe others in the list too, e.g. Press X for Red Shell. As you can see, it uses the same button with a different effect, and this is where you can specify this:

Not quite - "One Hot" means that the codes in that folder can only be selected one at a time (hence one hot/active). With the option disabled all/many of the options maybe selected.

No, cheat.dat is encrypted. The best thing you can do IMO, is to create a 0 byte cheat.dat file and either create your own usrcheat.dat or download one of the premade ones. I posted an all region in one file in another thread in this forum. Either way, you wind up with a fully customizable database and don't have to depend on R4 to release updates.

I tried to create some custom mariokart cheats for my m3 simply on the r4 editor, but the m3 won't load them. I put the usrcheat.dat into the _system_ folder. Why wont it load them?

also Knab can you post how to make a blank CHEAT.DAT? it seems the R4DS has come out with a new cheat database and i want to try it.

No. ARDS doesn't work on roms.

I posted this elsewhere but you may find this a help for your FAQ, and its saves alot of time as well

Actually you can make your own complete list quite easily. I found something out a while back when I was looking through AR's code to find out why my real ARDS didn't work. ( Support was less than poor form the support people ). Don't think this is common knowledge but it may now prove helpful for the new cheat option.

When the AR software looks for updates it references the following link internally

http://us.codejunkies.com/nds_actionreplay...codelist_eu.asp

If you download it you will find its the list of European game codes in xml, so just save it as an xml.

If you change the last part to us.asp then you will find its the list of US game codes and jp.asp for the Japanese games

Unless they change their software to stop people who don't have an ARTS downloading the files, you can just keep getting tour updates from there.

Newbie here in need of help.... please!!!

I have read your FAQ several times, put it to practise 3 times on my 2 MicroSD cards and still no luck.

I have a M3 Simply, with the latest firmware, 1.04, have created the cheat file (usrcheat.dat), put it in the system folder along with the cheat.dat file. I have tried with the games Bomberman, Advance Wars & Yoshi's Island.

I can't think of what i'm doing wrong, and as I said, I have read through your FAQ again and again...

All I can think of, is that i can't seem to get any info with the 'Y' button (i recall reading somewhere that if you pressed that you got 'information'), so maybe that's why cheats are not working???

Please don't send me to read it again if you think you might know what my problem is...

Please help!
