I'm Back, to work on mega thread and post a thread voicing my (possibly pointless) worries

    Seen Team modchip?

You see two things, a custom Rcm jig, nothing new, And then you see a black dongle thing plugged into the device Via Usb-C
    [IMG]

Rcm Jig: it's just a 3d printed, or injection molded piece of plastic, with a piece of metal inside, to short two nintendo switch pins. Nothing new, nothing much to talk about.

Black Dongle on the usb-C port: Now this is "new", Black piece with usb c to stick into switch, with a usb c port on the bottom, possibly for adding games, or use as like a usb interface for the switch(like dock, or usb peripherals ). This black piece, is also most likely just an rcm payloader because you see them take it out when the switch reboots.

The Bd, is most likely a Teensy, or a usb appliant micro controller, that sends the payload.
    Coincidently, there's this https://gbatemp.net/threads/running-fusee-gelee-through-a-teensy-3-6.502583/
which shows how to boot into Fusee

0.05 to 0.16 they put the black dongle(gonna call it the Bd for now), and the Rcm jig onto the switch and boot it up.
around .16 to .30 they into a menu and launch a "custom firmware"

    upload_2018-5-16_8-19-49.png

This being done would be pretty "simple" Just boot into a custom built version of linux, telling the thing to reboot into the Nintendo switch Home menu.

    Random Thought

And after they boot into the home menu they just show changing into games, and booting into them(but not playing any).
This throws off a couple of red flags for me, anyone can show boot videos of games.
People have made nintendo looking Ui's before https://gbatemp.net/threads/snes-classic-frontend-clone-on-the-switch.503737/
and The button combo that they use for changing games could be explained by this, a custom launcher, that's a 1:1 with nintendo's.

I think this is most of my concerns of the "modchip."
my hope is, that you won't Pre order this device until more info of it working is shown.
and please, if you think i'm just stupid, point out the flaw(s) in my argument, to enlighten me.

Tl;Dr: Mod chip is most likely a teensy like device launching into Fusee, then launching into a Ns looking Ui, fooling about everyone. so don't pre order, until alot more info is shown, or my arguments are shown as false.

What they're doing is already pretty illegal plus making them boot games in a video is a lawsuit guaranteed and that's why aren't showing games booting

Yes, because legality has stopped teams before. Gateway being an example here, even if they abandoned their product..

okay, but they already booted into the boot video, I'm pretty sure you could get a lawsuit from that too, A possible lawsuit doesn't stop people

WTH is this SH!t post supposed to be about again? It's Team MF Xecuter no need to worry. Team Xecuter delivers 100%. I wouldn't care if this thing ran on my, somewhat limited, hopes and dreams let alone a teensy or whatever. Really wish people would put there big boy pants on and do some research on their own before crying fake and whining about nothing.

Another thing...Don't talk about a Team that has been in quite a few scenes with phenomenal success like they are some cheap Chinese knock off piece of crap.

    Rant out

    Respectfully,

Why aren't we allowed to talk about the team? Nothing wrong about being sceptic. Now go cry in forum liberation society.

I feel like these concerns fall under two categories.

The first being that they are profiting off of other people's hard work, which is probably true. Lots of hackers tend to use software made by others without their permission for fun and profit. This is obviously what's happening with their apparent ability to run "backups", so it seems silly to expect better of them when it comes to the hard work of other hackers. There's money to be made for a plug-n-play solution, and no honor among thieves.

The second verges on tin foil hat conspiracy territory. The idea that the whole being able to run "backups" being a hoax just seems strange to me. There are people up in arms about how we don't need to give TX any money, and that all of the necessary software is out in the wild already. It's just that nobody has implemented a proper solution yet. I think it's more likely that TX, a trusted name in mod chips, has made a solution, than they would throw away all credibility for one quick cash grab. Maybe it won't live up to the hype, but there's no reason why something like this shouldn't work.

There's also all sorts of ethical dilemmas and whatnot, but this is the wrong site to discuss those.

Yeah, they were pretty big back in the Xbox scene. I'm pretty sure they also announced a more in-depth video is coming, along with the pre-order information, but I could be mistaken.

Yea well I think it's a real device, in about as long as it's been that's probably what realistically was able to be built in the timeframe. Perhaps when the leak occured that got them to speed up and come up with this... I am a bit let down though, because I was hoping for a permanent mod, a soldered version if you will. That would auto-launch a cfw rcm payload on every boot, and you'd have to press a certain combination of buttons while booting to boot stock firmware instead of cfw. Basically a reverse standard switch configuration. And permanently install-able so you wouldn't have to worry about it again. Looks like we'll have to make our own open source device after all that does this.

Or wait if it's like people have been (wondering, wanting, hoping?) that the jig and 'black dongle' are a one time use, and it installs an untethered cfw bootability somehow, well that would explain why skipping the soldered version, since it wouldn't be necessary if this actually makes it untethered.

Yea looks like we'll have to wait and see to clarify what it actually is instead of what we think it might be.

Edit: Yea m_babble I forgot to mention that but I was thinking the same thing. It's to update the TX customfirmware /and or payload, so it's not just set in stone what payload gets uploaded in case a new version that fixes something comes out and is better, it allows for easier updating of it with just a usb connection not needing a flasher or such device.

USB C port on the bottom is probably to update the dongle from a computer.
