The article is mostly about how most of the games he is excited about are being done by translation groups. I didn't see anything disrespectful about the groups in there.

With the announcement of the other ongoing Tales of Hearts patch by "K-E", I'd like to reassure everyone that Crimson Nocturnal's patch is still continuing and will not stop. We have a great group of people working on the project and I feel that our patch will provide the best quality and experience possible.

As I said in their thread, I do wish him the best with his project. There is certainly nothing wrong with multiple patches for the same game.

Is there anything major that you are working on that differs from the other patch from "K-E". I guess that should be noted for the other people waiting for this patch considering that i know how you work and you are putting a lot of effort into it.

One of the my team's translators put it well, "He seems more interested in fidelity than localization."

One of the things we said right from the get go of this project was that we are going to make it as close to possible to what a official localization would be. Obviously, without certain resources not available to regular people, that is not totally possible. However, we will be getting as close as possible to it. This patch is really about quality over speed. Better quality means a better experience for those playing it.

Hey, I'm the K-E in question. Thanks for the well wishes, and best of luck to you too! I kind of want to go it alone for the moment, but I'm open to the possibility of a team-up in the future, if you happen to be interested as well.

To clarify, no, I'm not interested in fidelity over localization in the least. I assume you are referring to the names Kohaku and Hisui. These are currently as they are, rather than localized as Amber and Jaden, because I feel the audio mismatch would be a bit jarring -- an unfortunate side effect of not being able to dub the game for a fully localized experience.

At least the names are changeable so it isn't that big of deal (I hate audio mismatch there was one in Mana Khemia(sp?) and it irked me) , keep on the good work !

Can any one advise me what is a good tactic against flying enemies ?
With semi auto I manage to hit them more but I want to play with manual (and I tend to miss flying enemies a lot in manual)

messed up audio can really screw up a game. the american localization of Lux-pain seemed to have two different storylines. the audio and the text. the catch was the text, all the pronouns were 'he' and i'm fairly certain they did half of it with an online translator, considering their grammar...

Then by translating any of the script, you are creating a audio mismatch. For example, in one of your screens, you have "You really think we can count on this rank amateur?", when that shows in game the VA is going to be different for all of those words. I believe it is more important to stay true to the theme of the names.

Anyways, one of the team's translators mentioned the fidelity over localization, I am not sure which part of the screenshots gave him that conclusion. As for teaming up in the future, maybe, but we'd have to look at how each project differs from the other.

QUOTE(demitrius @ Sep 22 2009, 01:10 PM) Hey I don't care who's translating it, as long as I get to play it down the road.

Basically, what you are saying is that if someone did a Google Translate of the game, you wouldn't care you'd still play it? Honestly, you should care, unless you don't care about the experience.

I think you're extending the analogy beyond the scope of applicability, and then some.

QUOTEI believe it is more important to stay true to the theme of the names.

My question is, to what degree? Hisui and Kohaku are the Japanese names for the minerals rather than the English names, yes. But the names of the other various characters throughout the game are all based on some rather obscure minerals. How much does it really matter that two of the references are in Japanese, when the rest of the references are all Greek to the average player anyway? Again, if there were a dub, their names should definitely be changed, but there isn't one, and that makes it a matter of weighing one criteria versus another. I'd rather avoid having a character scream out another character's name and have the subtitle/text completely not match what was said, in the case of names.

How about Shing? Does that really fit the mineral theme naming? As far as I can tell, it's pretty much a misspelling... If you're set on preserving the mineral theme, you should probably change his name to Shung.
