Localization disagreements aside, it's a shame to have so much duplicated effort. Have you figured out the TSS file format? I'd much appreciate anything you'd be willing to share for the script inserter.

My question is, to what degree? Hisui and Kohaku are the Japanese names for the minerals rather than the English names, yes. But the names of the other various characters throughout the game are all based on some rather obscure minerals. How much does it really matter that two of the references are in Japanese, when the rest of the references are all Greek to the average player anyway? Again, if there were a dub, their names should definitely be changed, but there isn't one, and that makes it a matter of weighing one criteria versus another. I'd rather avoid having a character scream out another character's name and have the subtitle/text completely not match what was said, in the case of names.
How about Shing? Does that really fit the mineral theme naming? As far as I can tell, it's pretty much a misspelling... If you're set on preserving the mineral theme, you should probably change his name to Shung.

Got that far, but how do you get to the pointers themselves? The only pointers I found to the start of each pointer table were floating around in the big data block before the base offset, and they weren't an equal distance apart or anything.Kajitani-Eizan said:Well, the pointer base offset is given in the header at 0x0C, and you can pretty much go from there. All pointers use this as a base offset.

Basically, what you are saying is that if someone did a Google Translate of the game, you wouldn't care you'd still play it? Honestly, you should care, unless you don't care about the experience.

Maybe I am. You should prove me wrong and translate the game, that will show me

Search![]()
Kajitani-Eizan said:Wow, jeez, way to misinterpret the situation. I'm saying that the solution to the problem is to search the file. As in, I am trying to help out. A fat lot of good that has done me, apparently.
You might want to just sit back, take a chill pill, maybe sit the next couple of plays out.

if you know how to program, it's not that hard to make the tools really. it's reverse engineering the darn file that's time consuming (in my opinion).
basically, once you know how the text is displayed, all your code needs to do is read the translated text, replace the old text, and rewrite the pointers or text-length defining byte and then pray that it won't explode. if not, then you'll have to find some extra empty space to eat into. that's all i have from my limited experience...
i have gotten quite a bit better after working through about a dozen games so far...
hmmmm i know how you feel, and yes i am anxious for tales (both of them), SAGA translation and some bit moreMHaven said:clegion said:well some newbz are like that, but not all of them.... i mean i don't go calling people sucks when i am new on the forum....
well there is those newbz and the i want to do a pokemon translation newbz and both are so annoying. Nways I can't wait till CN finish their patch so that i can play it. It is such a fun game. I played it in Japanese but haven't been able to experience the storyline since i don't know jap.
