Localization disagreements aside, it's a shame to have so much duplicated effort. Have you figured out the TSS file format? I'd much appreciate anything you'd be willing to share for the script inserter.

I think you're extending the analogy beyond the scope of applicability, and then some.

My question is, to what degree? Hisui and Kohaku are the Japanese names for the minerals rather than the English names, yes. But the names of the other various characters throughout the game are all based on some rather obscure minerals. How much does it really matter that two of the references are in Japanese, when the rest of the references are all Greek to the average player anyway? Again, if there were a dub, their names should definitely be changed, but there isn't one, and that makes it a matter of weighing one criteria versus another. I'd rather avoid having a character scream out another character's name and have the subtitle/text completely not match what was said, in the case of names.

How about Shing? Does that really fit the mineral theme naming? As far as I can tell, it's pretty much a misspelling... If you're set on preserving the mineral theme, you should probably change his name to Shung.

Honestly, we could go on and on about what each of us think is proper or not proper and in the end there would just be hard feelings and we would probably still not agree. I'd rather there not be hard feelings and we just agree that we have opposing opinions. There are definitely two sides of opinions on the matter of how ToH should be translated.

As DarthNemesis mentioned, he has been working on our text/script inserter, I am sure there are different areas of information that you guys could share amongst each other that would help out both projects in the end. Even if we do not merge projects, I am sure we could help each other out.

Well, the pointer base offset is given in the header at 0x0C, and you can pretty much go from there. All pointers use this as a base offset.

Got that far, but how do you get to the pointers themselves? The only pointers I found to the start of each pointer table were floating around in the big data block before the base offset, and they weren't an equal distance apart or anything.

Hey I don't care who's translating it, as long as I get to play it down the road.

Basically, what you are saying is that if someone did a Google Translate of the game, you wouldn't care you'd still play it? Honestly, you should care, unless you don't care about the experience.

Maybe I am. You should prove me wrong and translate the game, that will show me

Um, that is what this whole thread is about. Crimson Nocturnal is translating the game. I started Crimson Nocturnal. Are you lost or something?

Wow that is so fd up you wont even help another fellow hacker. Whats the point of being part of a community if you act like an Ahole and don't help out your peers. I mean i have been a lurker for this group and yours since they started and i just read this and it made me mad. I mean seriously. If you don't want to act like a part of the community then gtho. I was going to try your patch at first but dude you are a real case. I'm sticking with this group. No wonder you don't have a frieking team yet no one wants to be a part of your group. They prob hate you. So now i'm saying CN FTW.

I support you guys CN i think that what you are doing is great and i love your enthusiasm I hope that Darth figures it out sooner or later without the help of such an ass. My shout out to Neoxephon and the whole team keep up the good work. I think i'll go see your website again i heard you are working on SaGa 2. you guys are awesome. Keep up the good work

Wow, jeez, way to misinterpret the situation. I'm saying that the solution to the problem is to search the file. As in, I am trying to help out. A fat lot of good that has done me, apparently.

You might want to just sit back, take a chill pill, maybe sit the next couple of plays out.

Please, ignore the newbie, he doesn't know what he is talking about.

How are you going about searching the files? By hand? Aren't you running into false positives and negatives, depending upon how you are doing it?

Are newbz always like this? I mean he was calling me a spammer in the other thread, but whatever. I'm actually interested also on how you did the dumper/inserter. I'm an upcoming programmer and i'm trying to get a hold of things. Thanks for your input so far.

Just a quick notice. "Jap" is an offense term to the Japanese.

Quick note: Jap is a common abbreviation for Japanese releases. Outside of J, that is. And who cares? I make a lot of racist jokes to my Asian friends and they laugh. And Jap is only said by old WWII vets, honestly.

if you know how to program, it's not that hard to make the tools really. it's reverse engineering the darn file that's time consuming (in my opinion).
basically, once you know how the text is displayed, all your code needs to do is read the translated text, replace the old text, and rewrite the pointers or text-length defining byte and then pray that it won't explode. if not, then you'll have to find some extra empty space to eat into. that's all i have from my limited experience...
i have gotten quite a bit better after working through about a dozen games so far...

I see i'll prob do that work something out and pray to god that it doesn't explode lol. But nways this is getting off topic. I hope that they figure this games pointer system and they finish the text dumper/inserter soon.
