Android Tablet for Uni

Netbooks tend to have around a 1GHz dual core. My little sister has one as her main compiuter. It struggles on several things but its a decent enough machine for typing things out and some web browsing. Better than a tablet wuld be as a word processor.

I'm going to watch this thread a bit because I'm wanting a tablet to have around at Uni. Mainly for bringing up notes and such that are available online and for goofing off after lectures. That's basically what my friends with tablets use theirs for at Uni, very little actual note taking. A friend of mine has a Transformer and the keyboard does feel very iffy. I often miss keys and the mousepad isn't that great.

Yes, I thought about it.
I am a very fast typer, but for my lectures often i require to draw stuff.. and nothing beats pen and paper.

I just want to use something light weight to load the available lectures or contents on the web :). tablet would be good.
BUT, a netbook woudnt be bad either. In lectures where I dont have anything to draw, I could just use the netbook to type.

So either works fine for me really :). I just tried out my Galaxy S3 to download the lectures available online, it works fine and looks really good too.
I guess any cheap 4.0 android device would be able to do it too?

About tablets, I've got an Asus Transformer (TF201) and it's great. I use it to browse the 'net and watch youtube in bed, on the toilet, between classes, etc... but the transformer series is on the high-end, I'm not sure what else there is that's more affordable (cheaper ones, like you said, would still be just fine as a portable internet window, so to speak).

I have been looking around. I am not sure if a low end chinese tablet can do what my Galaxy S3 can. My galaxy S3 can literally do everything I need for my lectures! Just needed a larger screen lol.

Also, netbooks are quite good it seems. But most reviews I saw suggests ram upgrades. taking apart a brand new device for upgrade.. woudnt that void the warranty/guarantee of the device?

Your galaxy S3 costs 3 times as much as low end chinese tablets. What do you expect?

Need a Galaxy S3 with a bigger screen? Galaxy Note 2.

Replacing the RAM of a netbook does void warranties. The RAM they use is certified to work. Adding your own RAM nullifies that, changes the product (it's no longer "their product"), so any guarantee they had goes out the window. Doesn't matter much if it makes it a better product.

I could go for a Acer Aspire One and get ram expansion. Would cost me only £220. If i get a tablet with around that price, I woudnt get anything decent enough.
Plus, I guess a windows based device can do a lot more than what a tablet can do..

Should I just go for a netbook? Or a chinese tablet with jellybeans/ice cream sandwich?

How about the new Chromebook weighs 1.1kg and the battery is supposed to last 6 hours.

Yeah that'd be more of a compromise. I suggest a netbook and a small chinese tablet. The netbook for more stationary and creative things, the small chinese tablet for watching and reading stuff on the toilet and crap.

An Aspire One wouldn't be bad (or Asus). Just make sure you're not picking up a netbook with Starter windows on it, you want Home Premium.

lol i guess for this month, I am gonna get a cheap chinese tablet.
my student finance money hasnt come yet, and I cant afford a tablet and a netbook at the same time at the moment :)

I used my transformer prime to take all my notes and i was a able to keep on pace with the professors talking while using the on screen keyboard, if i have the keyboard dock itd be insane. The reason i didn't take my laptop to class to take notes was that it was a huge spec heavey laptop. Not meant for portability.

I take my Acer Aspire netbook into uni, its perfect with a ram upgrade and windows ultimate, its snappy, 6 hour battery life, extremely light, and looks cool (red). It runs visual studio, word and chrome simultaneously so its more that adequate in terms of processing power.

I haven't used one or know anyone with one but isn't the Microsoft surface tablet a good choice as it is basically a portable laptop but less powerful and it can also be a fully functional tablet. It's a bit on the pricey side though but you said price wasn't an issue.

That depends on whether the device has Windows RT or Windows 8.

Tablets I personally like:

Nexus 7. Affordable yet mighty.

Galaxy Note 10.1. This one can be particularly useful since you can write and scribble stuff as notes. However if you use it on stuff like web browsing or messaging (using the S Pen) it can be quite a chore.

iPad. Various tablet optimized apps for you to choose from. iPad mini is expected to be shown on Oct 23 btw.

Anyway

I was just thinking about tablets for note-taking recently too. I'm hoping the galaxy 7.7 drop a bit more before Christmas even if it a good condition use one.

Seem like a good tablet and maybe even a phone replacement. If not, then I'm hoping for the 7in one.

They have 8.9 and 10.1,but I I'm looking for a small tablet, that I can fit in my pockets.

It may be time to let my htc hd2 go.

Made me a little discourage about using it for notes, but I think it can do well with the right app.
Carry my laptop around is a pain. I like I can move it around, but not so/too much.

What luck/possibility that the 7.7 will drop soon? $230-> lower.
$200 is a good spot. I mean used of course.

Woah. Just came back ever since the hack. :O

Looks so good now!

Sometimes I really hate google for not launching their tablets in other territories besides the usual few.
We have to pay $399 for the nexus 7. :(

Im sure its still one of the best deals you can get since any other tablets will probably marked up in your territory aswell.

No tablet in Singapore is budget, really.

The higher end Android tabs can be even more expensive than iPad here.
That explains iPad popularity in Singapore. The price isn't that far.
Many people in Sinagpore use super android phones but use iPad as a tablet.
