sorry to be a pain, but what program was used to get the system menu wad from the wii. I tried a pre-downloaded wad, but that didnt work.

You need to use File System Browser by RAVEN, and then you copy to the SD the tiket, title and all the apps from the path where SysMenu is, then use Blaze Team's WadPacker to create the Sysmenu.wad, easy??

errrrm...
I used file system dumper, so i have ALL the files, and i have the wadpacker, but i dont know which file/s to choose to make the wad?
lol

you can't patch an IOS to be readen by IOS249, that's why it doesn't work..!!

I was able to get the other IOS's to be patched and installed.

IOS 9, 11, 12, 13 14, 15, 28, 31, 33, 34, 35, and 36.

I didnt touch the rest but IOS 30 was the only one not working :/

I think this is why ether said to install a sysmenu patched to 249, the patch 30, then just reinstall normal menu.

After some testing I find that MenuPatcher/Rebooter still function as normal so you can still load non IOS249 patched backups from Disc Channel, but it still has to be reloaded after each system menu load same as when using IOS30 for system menu. Also gamecube backup goes to black screen, drops video output, then reboots to system menu. Dunno if that is same sequence as with IOS30 since I've never dabbled in GC stuff. This was an NTSC-U GC game on NTSC-U Wii.

This is very epic very nice find OSW and ver brave of you to be the guinea pig Wiiblaster!!!!!
Now I wait for more updates in this thread.

Id just like to say thanks to OSW for suggesting this brilliant idea.

Thank you to WiiBlaster for risking his Wii to test this all out.

Thank you to the guy who suggested removing IOS30 and reinstalling a patched version.

Thank you to the rest who have contributed.

This discovery that has weirdly not been looked into will probably greatly help (if not already) development of the CSM.
This will probably open up the doors to many other great advancements in hacking the Wii.

i guess u deserve the credit of OSW, unless you both simultaneously thought the same thing, then hooray for both.
For some reason however, i can't get this to install, maybe its because the sysmenu.wad's i've recieved were bad, or it doesn't work on PAL wii's or my wii simply doesn't like it.

No they weren't bad it was simply because the wad he sent you were 3.2U you need 3.2E and it should work as it was intended to.

nup it was 3.2E, even if it was 3.2U, it would install, but my wii would brick
This doesn't install at all...damn you ret errors!! (shakes fist)

Why don't you rip the wad from the game using trucha signer or wii scrubber tools and use that wad instead? (you can use wufe on your wii too)

Yea that is weird, I had no problems with patching the menu to ios249 or installing it, besides reinstalling starfall again to get the wad manager autoboot disc to be recognized and actually work.

We still need to figure out a way to get it to recognize the 1:1 copies through the disc channel without having to reburn a whole collection of patched ones like the beginning of this project...

I know someone out there has a good idea for this. And I think it has something to with a different dip to ios30 maybe... which we know the multi-cios won't go down that low unless WiiPower changes it and we don't know exactly if that will work or not.

How and the helll did I get myself into this path?! LMAO

Wow, just tried to filter whats happening here and I'm now interested in running some tests myself. I've got a Doner Wii for all my homebrew/hacks attempts so I'm willing to slap this on there.

So far it seems that you've figured how to:
A. Dump current NAND (yea i know thats old news).
B. Obtain certs and private/public keys.
C. Compile WAD from current dump.
D. Patch said WAD with IOS (and other mods/hacks/hooks).

So with all this your current goal is to impliment backup loading without a "loader/rebooter(hooks)"?

Just wanna make sure I'm on the same page

Well this is where I am at with this... I was thinking of this...

1)install a patched system menu 3.2 with ios249
2)Put starfall back on
3)load up menu loader cloner and set the hooks to 249 and hit a (now you can see and load 1:1 through regular disc channel) right?!
4) now go to homebrew and execute the nand dumper
5) Repack the dump back into a wad (which should have the hooks set, right?)
6) Reinstall system menu that you just dumped back to wii
7)install starfall
8) $$?????????

I think this is where most of us are at now that are using are wii's as the labrats...

Ok I am dumping the NAND now... which is taking awhile I am assuming....

I took a system menu.wad and unpacked it with wad unpacker and this is what I have....

Folder name:000000100000002
systemmenuunwaddedtt5.jpg

So after the NAND finishes dumping I am guessing I can take the same files as what is listed from the NAND and copy them to my PC and repack those with the wad packer and install the wad to my system and then load starfall and see what happens...

Does this sound like a possibilty or am I guiding myself to a brick of some kind?

So I am under the impression that the system menu is title 00000002 (SYSMENU)

Wow! This project is moving fast! I hope that you will be able to get it working and the idea about dumping the NAND with the hooks sounds plausible! Good job guys!

not possible as the hacks apply i the RAM not on the nand itself
