I will start with easy steps, theme 4.2U and see if that fixes it. If not then will go into more risky changes like 4.3U system menu reinstall...
There is absolutely no point in updating to 4.3. It's just a crappier version of 4.2, like 4.2 is a crappier version of 4.1. They both just added more anti-homebrew stuff.

It sure does seem that way. I'm not sure what installing 4.3u did for me to fix my problem before honestly. It was all very random and stupid. There must be some reason that these Wii's have no problem booting into Maintenance mode, though. That's the only reason I think it has something to do with the message board. I've heard of this happening on non-hacked Wii's too though. So who really knows at this point. Could even be a hardware thing. Isn't it the System Menu that handles Message Board functions?

It seems from his NAND that some of the theme files are corrupt, which could be the problem you had. When you installed a new System Menu, you overwrote the them AND the rest of the SM. Assuming your issue is the same as his, all you needed to overwrite was the theme.

Installing the entire SM would have the same end result, but it adds a little more risk to the process. It would almost certainly end up fine, but better safe than sorry.

I actually did that several times with the system menu was using. I was on 4.1u at the time. I re-installed 4.1 several times and that didn't fix the problem. On top of that, I never used MyMenuify or any custom system menu themes. Like I said, it was a fluke. I looked at my Nand with some PC programs too. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary.
