Hacking Discussion SXOS USB HDD XCI and Update Packages

I have never done USB loading before, now I have set up my sysnand for online and my emunand for offline, I figure it's time I try it out.

How does SXOS and XCI's understand there is the latest update available. Example, Splatoon 2 XCI on USB HDD and also the latest update file. Is there any specific locations I need to place the XCI and Updates file in to?
How does the game use the latest update?

it wont know
you have to install the latest updates manually
updates are not loaded along side XCIs

So have XCIs on USB HDD, and install NSP updates to switch? Or can I install NSP updates to USB HDD too

yes install nsp and have xci on usb
you cant install to usb
