offtopic: your sig is too big
Also offtopic: Mine or his?

Ontopic: And I guess Tales of Innocence is technically a sword game. The encounters are random, but the battles are all in real time and the character has a sword.

The encounters ar'nt random,an enemy chases you and if they reach it begins the battle.
Sorry. Poor choice of words on my part (being brain dead doesn't help my case either). I just meant that you run around and enter a separate screen to fight enemies. At any rate, it's a very good game and there's a new translation that looks promising! I guess look forward to Tales of Heart as well.

Eragon is your normal hack n slash game ! kingdom hearts, like mentioned will rock too. Not to forget Children of mana and the others that have already been mentioned.

you use a whip in castlevania, as for sword games, the zelda series is a good sword game.

You don't use a whip in Dawn of Sorrow unless you're playing in Julius mode (and even then you barely ever use it).
