All CFW use the same exploit whether its Atmosphere, ReiNX, SX OS, RajNX, etc. They rely on Fusee Gelee which is a hardware exploit. Doesn't matter what CFW you use if your hardware is not vulnerable to the exploit to load CFW.

As for what is the best course of action for a patched unit, there is a warmboot exploit on the Horizon named Deja Vu that works on firmwares 4.1 and below. But newer games and accessing the eShop is going to require higher firmwares, firmwares that aren't compatible with Deja Vu. You're honestly better off buying a second, used console if you want to use it for CFW.

Thanks for the information! Got a better understanding of the hardware exploit & CFW.

I'm not that interested in eShop or newer games as such. In fact, I'd even be ok running the device offline for a while if needed. I got some game discs for the switch, which I plan to use in the meantime. And can get a few others if needed.

Perhaps for now, if in fact the firmware on my device is 4.1 or below, I should use it but make sure not to upgrade the firmware above 4.1, and continue using it with disc-games, and see where the exploit scene goes.

Switch isn't my primary gaming device. I'm a heavy PC Gamer with Xbox as secondary. I like switch for the portability as I can carry it with me to work where I take occasional breaks or during wait times while some work processes are running, I can sit back and game. So I'm not overly desperate for the hack/exploit. But would definitely like to if possible.

Thanks again for all the info.

Just enjoy it for the games you're going to buy now.

Focusing on CFW, and your lack of options, or playing the waiting game will suck all of the fun out of this awesome gift you were given.

Have fun!

Couldn't agree more! Thanks!!

Gotta agree there. Especially since staying on 4.1 means no Super Smash Bros Ultimate either (as that requires 5.1.0 bare minimum I think).

I have had my switch for a while, returning it is for an unpatched unit is not an option. I'm aware asking for an ETA for a new hack method on a patched & updated switch is dumb.

I did search around, but not seeing answers. Just wondering if this is even something groups are working on/making progress on. I check forums weekly looking for news about it or updates, but nadda.

Well a write up of browserhax was just released so ipatched units may soon be able to utilize homebrew (but no CFW until Deja Vu is finally released) http://hexkyz.blogspot.com/2018/12/the-switch-memoir.html

So I did update to Firmware 6.2.0 in order to play the latest games and get all the latest updates. For now I'll just continue to use my Patched/Updated Switch as is, but will keep checking in here to see if there's an exploit which comes along.
