Switch voice chat with Fortnite

I don't know if this is already common knowledge out there, but voice chat works with Fortnite on nintendo switch when in handheld mode by simply plugging your headset into the headphone jack. Also wasn't sure if this was the right place to post this little bit of news. It will also work in docked mode if you have a long enough cord lol

I think that may be because it's fortnite that includes native voice chat. It's not really a ninty feature

True, but I the point I'm annoyed about is that if the hardware supports it, what's stopping them? They even licensed headsets for Splatoon 2, and yet they still haven't brought it to a great comp game like Splatoon?

Only reason I could see is that they don't want to deal with kids getting talked down to online which I could understand. Or at least that was what I thought until they brought DOOM and GalGun onto the platform XD

My thoughts as well. They're just THAT set on pushing that stupid damn app to kill our mobile devices

So you are saying the 3.5mm jack on the Switch is the dual input\output type for microphone+headphone out in a all-in-one 3.5mm jack?

Now Nintendo got pissed and will demand Fortnite to remove this feature. Let's not tell it to Nintendo OK??

Still rather use discord when playing on my TV. When plugging in a headset sound to TV stops. And because I have a 5.1 setup, a splitter can't give me 5.1 sound. Then again Fortnite doesn't support surround sound on the Switch. I think because the Switch version is based on the mobile version.

Even on the PS4 amazingly some best games seem to not support surround either.

MGS5 I think also has no surround if I remember my self it's cuts off all the other speakers and work in 2.1 only.

I have no idea about Fortnite as I don't like kiddy games, it looks like a crap for me ;).

I have a long extension cable, but you can probably use a BT TX device if you don't want wires :)
I wonder if you could plug in a small mic (with or without an adapter) and still have audio coming from the speakers.

i bet its because the switch is so weak, nintendo has problems to make games with resources left to a simple communications system ;O;

it was stated that this inline feature for voice chat is in the latest SDK for devs.. but if a game was built on a previous kit and they want to add inline voice chat post release ,it requires a complete QA resubmit to nintendo and has to go through that super long approval process again

inline chat is open to all devs, if they are willing to resubmit all their work for QA testing again and have the newest kit available to them.. and want to redo a lot of work they have done under the older sdk to recompile with the newer one

nintendo worked with fortnite to be the 1st game to have this feautre.. they wanted to make sure the game got out ASAP, so they got a bit of special ninty help on speeding the process up..

What I think @Tigran means is that the hardware is more than powerful enough, Nintendo's hardware usually has some head room due to them always trying to keep the frame-rate consistent, look at past Mario Kart titles, the custom tracks people make go well beyond what Ninty has done and it still plays fine.

And honestly, how hard do you think it is to keep a voice channel open? Compared to rendering large (rough)720p environments on a meh GPU?

ask @p1ngpong he can tell you how

actually, Nintendo was the one who recently added the option to the switch sdk to allow devs to do voice chat natively on the switch.
Perhaps they were having a hard time understanding and that's why it wasn't till now that they rolled it out

check system settings, it may be defaulted to stereo and not surround. I keep forgetting to change it back all the time cause when I dock it at another friends house who doesn't have surround sound many parts of the audio are missing forcing me back to stereo sound

I get where your coming from, but it's all I have atm for shooters on the switch. and the kiddy part holds true with my little sister nagging me about the dam game now that she caught me playing it

yet they opted instead to leave resources to video recording instead, why not leave the option to opt for either video recording or voice chat

I just hope the nintendo switch online app thing gets sh*tcanned. It was a stupid concept in the first place
ehh, I would actually prefer it to stay, but be optional. you should be able to either play with voice chat on the system itself or if you don't have a long enough cord be able to do it with the app. it's a nice option for those who need it that I wish the ps4 mobile app had
