Hi all. Newbie here, been following the scene... short question is it worth staying on fw version 3.0? Upcoming cfw will still work on latest firmwares with the jig method? Thx in advance!

Have a quick search maybe? There are plenty of opinions on here if it's worth it or not.

Found only one thread...not to mention it has been posted a while. Now that TX came out with the dongle n stuff, have been curios..

On firmware 3.0.0 we might get a coldboot option and a software solution, so you won't need to use a jig anymore. Lower firmware offers more vulnerabilities, so it's generally recommended to stick to it. However, it depends on what you want to do on your switch. If you want to play the newest games and use online functionality as well as don't mind using a jig, updating is fine. There's also a method to update your firmware without burning fuses, so you can still downgrade later on: https://gbatemp.net/threads/how-to-...nofficially-without-burning-any-fuses.507461/

  1. Version 3.0.0 will probably someday get a browser exploit that allows one to boot into CFW without a jig/AutoRCM. The exploit exists privately, and it has been implied that this could be released soon-ish, perhaps in a matter of weeks or months.
  2. Version 3.0.0 might someday get a coldboot exploit that allows one to boot into CFW without a jig/AutoRCM upon powering on the console, but it could be months or years before it's released, if ever. This kind of exploit doesn't even exist privately yet, but it's theoretically possible.
If you care about the above two things, don't update. If you are content with forever using a jig/AutoRCM in order to launch CFW, then it's safe to update.

This works, but if you update to 4.0.0 or higher, then downgrading back to 3.0.0 might cause the cartridge slot to stop working until you update back to 4.0.0 or higher again.

If you want my opinion I feel like by the time this supposed 3.0.0 "coldboot" or other jigless methods of booting cfw are available for 3.0.0, there are going to be like 4 people left with 3.0.0. Generally hacks and exploits try to focus on affecting the most people possible, so a newer firmware will probably be exploited in a similar way sometime in the future.

I updated so I could play newer games. I know there are "emunand" type solutions with cfw, but it seems like such a pain to setup and keep safe. One dude got burned by booting SX OS 1 time and got his fuses burnt. I know they fixed it but that's just one example of how it might be tough to keep your fuseset safe going into the future.

AutoRCM is the jigless solution for higher firmwares and while it is tethered, it isn't a pain in the ass. Android phones and windows PCs are everywhere, or you could build or buy a dongle.
