I'm planning to upgrade the memory on my mid-2007 MacBook, but I've forgotten which way the module was oriented when I removed it. Even when I follow the AI's instructions—inserting it with the connector facing toward the back and the notch on the left—it still wobbles, and when I try to start it up, the indicator light just flashes and it won't boot. What should I do?

Listening to AI was your main issue. If the RAM stick doesn't go in at all, turn it around. It should quite literally just latch into the slot.

If it doesn't boot and you didn't change anything else then the RAM is not seated properly, just do as @emmanu888 advised.

If it doesn't click in then you're slotting in wrong. I have one of those MacBook and if the RAM stick doesn't go in? Then you're trying to install it upside down.

I don't hear a “click,” but every time I plug it in, I just hear a sound like the seal is making contact. I think this would probably be the same even if I flipped it over or turned it upside down.

Seal making contact? The arm that lets you pull the RAM out should give you resistance when the RAM stick goes in all the way.
