I've gotten Atmosphere installed, and now I'm trying to use ChoiDujourNX to update to 6.0 but I can't seem to launch the app, it just starts and shuts down. I did some googling and it seems I need to "add debugmode=1 to my launch profile", but I have no idea how to do that. Any tips?
There should be a hekate_ipl.ini file on your SD card. The location eludes me at the current moment but just search for it and you will eventually find it. Once you locate it, open it in Notepad (it should open in Notepad by default). Pick any of the Launch Configurations, CFW being the preferred one. Anywhere underneath it you will add the line "debugmode=1" which will enable debug mode when you choose the Launch Configuration CFW. After using debug mode to launch ChoiDujourNX on firmware 1.0, make sure you remove it as it breaks sleep mode on firmware 6.X

First check to see if the serial number is patched or not according to this <Removed due to post limit>. Then you can follow this <Removed due to post limit> on how to setup one of the three available CFW on your unpatched Nintendo Switch.

The problem is I'm ordering one off of amazon (I'm not within a reasonable distance from a store where I could actually go look at a box.) So I don't really have a way of checking serial numbers I don't think :(

Try and see if the resellers are willing to divulge that information before selling off the console. If you cannot manage that, shoot for the firmware since the patched units run either firmware 4.0.1 or 4.1 out of the box.

I can see if they will, but from what I've been reading you're not seemingly likely to get an older unpatched version on amazon.

So from what I'm gathering is, without an unpatched switch, there is currently no way to do what I'm after (basically, modify save games)? If that's the case, if everyone generally pretty confident that there will be a new method of doing this for these patched switches sometime in the future?

Sorry for all the question btw, thanks for the help though :)

Currently there is no public way of hacking a patched Switch but there are private exploits that work up to firmware 6.0.1 which we can use on them when they are released.

That's good to know, so even if I bought a switch now I'm not likely to be screwed in the long run, I'd just have to wait for release.

I can't boot to recovery at all, any idea why? Do i need to disable auto rcm?

the key combination is hold VOL UP VOL DOWN, while holding, press power, keep holding them. right?
my switch boot into RCM instead. Do i need to disable auto rcm?

i have not tried disabling it as i still have unblown fuses, and dont want to risk them getting blown up by accidentally booting to normal Horizon.

thankyou

(i need to boot into recovery to remove firmware update that has been downloaded but not installed)

EDIT SOLVED

from eScrub via /r/SwitchHaxing sent 6 minutes ago

Show Parent

Boot into RCM, launch via payload THEN hold vol up and down and it should go into recovery.

I have a 4.1.0 Switch and I got Super Mario Party yesterday, which needs 5.0.0 as far as I know.

I would like to update my switch without burning fuses to keep the possibility open for me to hack the switch later (I hope, that there will be a safe method to hack the switch in some months or years, and I would like to keep this possibility).

Is there a way to update my switch without burning fuses and playing online my original games, without the danger of being banned? I do not want to really use cfw by now, I only want to update my switch without burning fuses.

Im getting Nintendo switch. Serial XAW400091xx (exploitable). I will use it only for offline playing with cfw. Firmware is 4.1.0. Should i update to the latest fw or stay on 4.1.0 before softmod?

There is a slightly less-hacky way of updating without burning fuses but you need a really good jig/method of entering RCM: https://gbatemp.net/threads/an-easy...ch-firmware-without-burning-any-fuses.511847/
hi guys, anybody knows where i can get the 4.1.0 firmware for teh switch? thanks

You can just update your firmware without burning fuses with the homebrew application ChoiDujourNX. Fuses are what primarily prevent downgrades. Know that AutoRCM will be installed by default to prevent fuses from being burned but AutoRCM is more useful than harmful in the right hands.

Am all set up. Taken nand backup. Updated to 5.1.0 using ChoiDujourNX. Installed games, etc. Now was ready to start playing and a friend told me he can't check his "play times" because he didn't link a Nintendo Account.

Now, for linking, I think I'll have to flash virgin nand 4.1.0, go online, and add it. But a friend told me I'll have to update to 6.1.0 to actually link a Nintendo account. How do I go about doing this?

Update officially from virgin nand 4.1.0 and link account? Or udpate via ChoiDujourNX? Wouldn't updating via ChoiDujourNX leave traces of homebrew and get me banned?

Is it even worth linking a Nintendo account? Please help me. Am so confused :|

Either way you will need to update to firmware 6.X because you cannot link a Nintendo Account without being on that firmware. Which means you're going to need to restore your clean NAND and then update its firmware. From there, you have 2 choices on how you wish to update. The first is using ChoiDujourNX while the second is using a good jig to re-enter RCM after installing the update as detailed in this tutorial (or if you don't care about fuses, you can just update normally and burn your fuses). Using either of the two methods may warrant a ban however, but there is no way to update your firmware without burning fuses and not risk a ban; they are mutually exclusive.

And linking a Nintendo Account is actually worthwhile because you won't be able to link one after you are banned as well as some games requiring a linked account in order to play them such as the NES app or Pianista.

Is there any advantage on updating without burning fuses. Mine is at 4.1.0 on my nand backup.

Fuses prevent downgrading. By not burning your fuses, you can return to your original firmware in case an exploit is revealed that works on lower firmwares.

And do you envisage or know anything that's in the works? Is it worth for me to stay at 4.1.0?

Am thinking I'll have to be online for a few minutes to create and link a Nintendo account and be offline forever. I hope linking account goes through or is it an instant ban and won't allow me to be online for a few minutes?

There is already one private exploit that has been confirmed to work up to firmware 4.1 (and up to firmware 6.0 but may involve more work) that we all know as Deja Vu but there is currently no estimated release time.

All it takes to get banned is connecting for one second. However, the ban itself may not be delivered instantaneously. It may take sometime between a day to a year before you are banned.
