First off, I wanted to thank Draxzelex as he has been an amazing resource, and very supportive to everyone who asks a question.

I have a brand new unit which I have only booted into Maintenance mode to view the firmware version, and used hekate to backup my NAND. If I want to load a CFW, do I need to go through the trouble of doing a regular boot up in OFW and doing the complete setup? Or can I completely bypass the OFW and just load CFW?
To load CFW, you have to enter RCM which is booted before OFW thus making it a coldboot exploit. The exploit then involves sending a payload via USB connection of which you'll then be able to load CFW or OFW. Basically it doesn't matter if you're in OFW or not, you can only load CFW from RCM and RCM can only be loaded when the console is off (or if you have AutoRCM installed, it will load into RCM automatically).

So I have a switch with custom firmware and recently plugged my joy cons I use for that console into my friends unmodded switch and it forced an update on my Joycons. I haven't been home to test if the Joycons will work properly or affect my modded switch in any way but is anyone aware of any problems that arise?

Only if your actual way to enter rcm was with modded joycons i.e you solderblobbed them without a resistor

Ah ok I should be good then. My modded switch (which had the grey Joycons in question) is on 5.1.0 and I plugged them into a non-modded console with 6.0.1, it then auto updated the Joycons. I'll test when I'm home I guess but I hope they're fine

How do you enter RCM?

So my Switch's AC Charger isn't working. I've arranged to send it back to repair/replacement under warranty, but in the meantime I need something I can use instead.

I've got a micro-USB to USB-C converter which at least charges it in handheld mode, but I'm trying to find a way to get it to work docked. It just won't go into TV mode, throwing an error that I'm not using the official AC charger.

I've tried a couple different USB power supplies, and plugged into a computer, but nothing. Any suggestions?

It wont work with a standard usb charger. Those only output 5 volts and at a fairly low amperage. You'd have to buy a proper USB c charger that can output a proper voltage and amperage.
So basically you'll have to wait until you get it back from nintendo or just buy a new one.

Just
Yeah your fine, the joycon update only affects those who enter rcm with modded joycon :)

Okay cool! This may be dumb but can Nintendo see that a joycon was on a modded console? Similar to how they can see if a game cart was being played on one? I dont use any gamecarts I own on my modded switch only my normal one.

Not sure if anyone can help me but this is in regards to converting movies over for the Switch.

I have been able to get my Spirited Away disc ripped to 720p and made a nsp for my Switch with a custom movie cover. Everything looks and plays really nice (=

I used handbrake and chose Android 720p for the preset and was curious if this was the best option for the Switch? If anyone happens to know a bit about the subject etc any tips or opinions would be welcomed and appreciated in regards to getting the best quality, thanks!

On handbrake I choose "Vimeo Youtube 720p30" and get GREAT quality :D idk if its the best but I hope that helps

Awesome and thank you for the response. I was trying out Android 720p30 and it seems to look excellent as well. Thanks!

Try formatting your SD card or using another SD card.
The 3 currently available CFW are SX OS, ReiNX, and Atmosphere however some of the features of SX OS are behind a paywall.
Atmosphere: https://www.sdsetup.com/
ReiNX: https://reinx.guide/
SX OS: https://sx.xecuter.com/

Which is best. What are the pros and cons? Also if there is an update to cfw does it auto push the update to my console.

What are the benefits of nand backups?

My switch is a hackable version according to the serial number .but it is on firmware 5.01. how would I go about putting cfw on it??

  • There is no "best" CFW; they each have their own pros and cons. ReiNX for example is designed to be noob-friendly and supports free .XCI installation. Atmosphere offers a wider range of customization but is more difficult to setup. SX OS has the least amount of homebrew compatibility and hides the piracy-related features behind a paywall
  • A NAND backup can recover your Switch from a brick
  • Follow one of the guides I already posted

1) How do we actually update Reinx if a newer version comes out?

2) There are currently 3 cfw versions. Someday one might outsmart the other one. How and how easy is it to switch over from one to the other?
Atmosphere
ReiNX
SX OS

I will install renix or athmosphere. What does athmosphere offer that renix does not?
