Eh, the 360 isn't a *bad* name I don't think
The Xbox 360 wasn't bad because of the name, but because of the many problems it had with the hardware. No Xbox gamer in the world doesn't know about the Red Ring of Death.

But the Wii U's hardware was even worse.

Eh, it was still pretty successful - certainly a lot more than its successors. It's viewed pretty positively all things considered

Funny how people mention Wii U but not the Xbox series X / S thing... that shit genuinelly confuses me. As the Nerd would say, what were they thinking?
I guess we've been keeping it within the Nintendo family. To be honest, the Xbox Series X/S has the distinction of not following any number convention, but making it sound (relatively) complicated wasn't a good move.

Xbox 360: Hold my beer.
I don't fault Microsoft for doing that because, at the time, the PS3 was getting ready for release. Releasing the "Xbox 2" against the "PS3" hit a chord with the marketing department, and the "Xbox 360" was born. I used to enjoy the feedback banter:

- "Why do they call it an Xbox 360? Because you do a 360 and walk away."
- "You'd be facing the console."

In the end, all the Red Rings of Death didn't deter customers enough to make the Xbox 360 a disaster.

I didn't have a strong response to the name "Xbox One" (lol "Xbone"), but I did to the bad press Microsoft gathered for it. At the time, customers weren't enthusiastic about an always-online digital-only console. Microsoft had to backpedal, but the damage was already done.

The Xbox One sold fewer units than the Xbox 360, and the Xbox Series X/S sold fewer units than the Xbox One.

But people still hated on it anyway. Just look at the massive amount of Xbox 360 destruction videos on YouTube. Famous YouTubers like TechRax and HowToBasic didn't like the Xbox 360, like, at all.

It was just a trend at the time. Smashing expensive items, wasting food, anything for attention while Youtube was still growing. In the end, the 360 had a strong library, both digital and physical. If Microsoft had continued those business practices, they would have stood a chance in the gens ahead.

I give the Xbox 360 a ton of credit for shaking things up. Despite being a Western company, Microsoft did well with the Xbox 360 in North America. Even in Europe, it was somewhat close, with the PS3 beating out the 360. The PS3 was more popular in Japan. The Wii did outsell the 360 and PS3 (not combined) in Europe and Japan, but the 360 reportedly sold more units than the Wii in North America.

The PS3 had to catch up to the 360 in some regards, such as being able to access the system menu in-game. The 360 arguably had the best infrastructure for its online services, though people noted that online play on the PSN was free compared to the 360. Overall, even with the Red Ring of Death, the 360 left an admirable legacy.

EDIT: I should note that I don't fault anyone for being frustrated with defective hardware. In addition, I would hope that Microsoft's Customer Support was helpful in replacing defective items.

The good thing with all of Microsoft's consoles from Xbox 360 onwards is that they are all backwards compatible. Which means that if you have an Xbox Series X|S, you can play games from all three previous Xbox consoles.

Backwards compatibility is something that has always fascinated me about gaming consoles, no matter from what company they are made from.

You know what we should call Switch 2 instead? Double Switch. Hire me, nintendo.

I like the name "Switch Up" too. The PS numbering got annoying after 3, yet here we are. I think Apple is to blame for this with their (had to check) Iphone 16 and all 46 variants. Who the hell is paying $1,300 for a phone?

Only company who hasn't annoyed me with this crap is microsoft, ironically.

Agreed w/ "Switch Up", Switch 2 just radiates "we don't want another Wii U so we're sterilizing our branding" energy.

Wii U was bad because it's nonsense of a name. Switch 2 is bad because it's bland and generic. It won't cause a marketing disaster like Wii U naming did, but it's so boring.

Takes DS for example, which was superseded by 3DS. Genius, simply brilliant. Gameboy, followed by color and advance? Lyrical, yet to the point.

what do you think of ps2,ps3,ps4,ps5?
