Just finished sword of mana like 10 minutes ago, and i was looking for other games to put on my list to play
and i saw a video of gameplay of tales of phantasia, the sound effects, and Ui's gave me tri-ace vibes and
I love their games, despite that I found out it's not developed by them, even so I'm still very much interested in it.

I've seen there are alot of versions of it, which one would you recommend and why and is there anything i should know
going in, if you want to spoil the game or certain parts to better explain, go ahead i don't mind.

I was wondering the same thing yesterday, from what I've searched the GBA version appears to be one of the worse ones but also the only one with an official English translation. Then there's the Super Nintendo version, I played it for a bit years ago but didn't finish it, and while I always recommend the SNES version of any game because I'm biased towards that console, I wouldn't in this case, unless you can read Japanese or want to laugh at the absurd English fan translation.

So that leaves us with either the PS1 or PSP versions. The PSP one seems to have a few enhancements and quality of life improvements, as well as adding a new character and expanded story compared to the PS1 version. Both versions have English fan translations.

I would probably pick the PSP version.

You have me leaming towards the psp version based on the things you've said, but I do wanna ask, is there any downsides I should be aware of?

As I know ports of ps1 games on psp tend to have at least one glaring problem,

with FFT Wotl it was the slow down (that has a patch though thankfully)

with Valkyrie profile Lenneth, there were crashes at certain dungeons.

And breath of fire 3's music seemed sped up some.

If there isn't any of these I'll go with it, if so I genuinely wouldn't mind going with the ps1 version since both can be played on psp.

(I may save the SNES one to play on a future run, it seems like comedy gold based on that image alone)
