Just a thought, when the Brawl+ Gecko OS is finished, maybe someone who is decent at design could whip up a Brawl+ Channel? I know I don't use Gecko OS for anything else, and it would be cool to have something like that on the menu of the Wii.

We can't do that. It tampers with legal issues. It involves installing .wad which the Brawl+ team doesn't want. Sorry. It's only one extra step, HBC > Brawl Gecko. So, it should be okay.

I'd love it if it weren't illegal though.

When I tire of Brawl I play Street Fighter......

And vice-versa.

You're basically doing all this work to make Brawl into a different game, thereby taking away what made it so good in the first place!
But I know you'll tell me my opinion is crap, and the like, so I'll leave you to it.

I at least hope you can apply these 1337 hacking skills to a real-life situation.

I'm not going to say your opinion is crap because you already mentioned that. But, I wasn't going to say that in the first place because I only think your argument is not legitimate.

You can't compare Street Fighter and Smash Bros. because they're two completely different games.

Super Smash Bros. sold on hype and it's name. Because 64 and Melee was so good, everyone was expecting a lot from Brawl. Some of the new people like it, but a ton of the veterans don't like it. They dumbed down a game where everyone was looking forward to. If it had advance techniques to make the metagame deeper, it'd probably be more fun. For the casual gamers, they can play without advance techniques or however they want.

What is fun? Fun to me is competitive play and how deep the metagame is. Competitive play is fun to a lot of people as well. Fun is a word that varies. We created this project with few things in mind. "Balance, competition, and metagame."

Hope this post helped you understand our motives.

While it's a great idea, they don't even tell you how to install it in the actual guide, how friggin' useless. I spent 5 minutes reading this crap and watching videos, until I realized "Wow, it's actually worse than Brawl was" leave the game alone, it might not have some of the godly Melee things in it, but it's still better than this crap.

This really is not "crap" its pretty cool, and getting better by the day from what I can tell. It is optional so if you don't like it don't worry about it, but it "installs" through Gecko OS just as you would patch any other game with a code. I'm still enamored, and I am sure plenty of others are too keep it up guys!

Yeah, well you know, a guide would be nice when you put crap like this up and want people to actually try it.

There are plenty of guides as well as video tutorials. Take the time to look and you'll find it.

I like how you said that. I play Street Fighter and Melee very competitively, but I still found Brawl fun.

EDIT: There is no way to use texture mods and Brawl+ at the same time currently, right? Never had the time to try it, so I figured I'd give it a shot. Just want a confirmation on this.

I'm sure there are, but it's funny that the original FAQ (and this guide, although this is mostly just the same FAQ) don't mention where to find such a guide, or tell you what to do with the files, it just says "If you want it, get it here!" and that's it.

Our "how to install guide" was removed because they think installing HBC is close to being illegal. I don't care if you browsed or not, but shut up, seriously. You go fucking around when you probably didn't even bother asking. There's a live chat for a reason. It's been posted quite a few times in this topic. Would it be that hard to think "hey, there's no guide. I guess I'll ask?"

This Brawl+ might be crap to you, but it's fun to many others. You can play your game. We can play ours. And games don't need to be "left alone" for it to be fun. Have you ever heard of Mrs Pacman? Do you know the story behind it? It was a modification of the original game by game lovers where it eventually became a real thing accepted by the actual company. This is a fact. We don't care if Brawl+ over takes original Brawl or not. We just wanna have fun with the group of people who were disappointed in Brawl.

Edit: Please don't post back if you don't have anything to contribute to this topic. The main focus of this topic is to show people the intentions behind Brawl+. I don't want this topic to go into a flamefest.

You can. You just have t use the snapshot hack method.

Yet wait, there's still no guide, so you're posting this, yet you have no reason at all to not do it. HBC is all over the place, you could easily post one, so could the original people, hell they don't even have to, they just have to say how to do it after you have HBC.

Like I said, smashboards doesn't allow a how to install such and such because they are owned by MLG. They don't want anything that MAY have them turning in a wrong direction, such as illegal modifications. We all know HBC isn't illegal. Brawl+ has nothing illegal in the installation process, nor will we ever make the users risk violating laws. I can post one, but they can simply ask in the chat because I guarantee you there will be many more questions they'd ask along with how to install.

I'm just gonna ignore you from now on if you post any thing that is off topic/negative things about the project in this topic. You can do me the favour of bumping this topic though will all the flames you want. Doesn't matter to me, it just gathers more attention for this project.

------------

Anyways, back on topic.

We have a player specific buffer system now!! It's awesome.

For those who are confused what a buffer system is, let me explain. In original Brawl, we have a buffer system of 10. Have you ever noticed that when you mash a button, the character does some things you don't want to do? Or maybe, accidental deaths because you got pushed of the stage but your character performed an action that delayed your upB?

It's the effect of the buffer system. It basically delays your input. For example, try short hopping with Falco. Mash the B button until you land. Normally, you'd get a double laser short hop, but because you mashed it, you get a third one coming out the moment you land even if you didn't press B upon landing.

But now, we have it play specific. So any person can play with which ever preference is preferred. I'm more of a technical and precise person, so I love the lowest buffer available. I'd play with buffer 0 to 2. Low buffers make things harder to do such as Bowser's Claw Hop, Falco's instant Aerial Phantism, Mario's short hop double uAir, and Marth's short hop double fAir. Those are all examples of what lower buff system affects. But hey, you get better practice and timing. Your control is much more tight, but your character is much more accurate.

Either way, this is beneficial for everyone. Including new comers. Hope you enjoy this new buffer system by the Brawl+ team.

Sounds good, I have been keeping up with the betas recently, and it is getting really awesome quick, some of the stuff that came and went with the character select screen was really cool! The buffer thing will each person hafta alter the .txt/.gct or is there a way being worked on to do it in game?

Edit: mentioned a while back, but MAN is Jiggs fun again!

All you do is put Handicap on.

0% handicap = 0 buffer
10% = 1 buffer
20% = 2 buffer
etc..
100% = 10 buffer (regular Brawl)

And yes, Jigs is fun. I main her now. Rest fests for the win.

Well then, can you post a guide? I most likely won't have any more questions, and just so you know, if it's illegal on the game it's just as illegal on IRC, every IRC server keeps logs of every room, and most room owners are smart enough to have ChanServ send them logs of their own room as well, and most companies are smart enough to know how to get these logs whether through legal or illegal means, so it's still not that safe, plus it means that everyone has to go to ta third party to get this information, and there is NEVER anyone on 24/7. How do I know? I've gone to countless friggin' sites that always say "Juts ask in our IRC, cause it's almost illegal!" for everything bin files for GBA emulators to "How to do that little insignificant part of modding your system".

If you don't want to help, ignore me. Elsewise, you save a lot of time just posting a guide. Just because I think this totally sucks doesn't mean I don't want to try it, I know a lot of people around here who are always putting brawl down, and this would probably make them think twice (giving me someone to actually play with).

Thank you for posting this, I just tried out Brawl+ and it is epic!!! I can't wait for the next version.

Sorry for the late reply. I've been quite busy. I've only had time to check once in a while but not actually post.

I'm assuming you already know how to install HBC.

Then you're practically 90% done.

1. Download codesets. I recommend any 4.0 beta codeset. You can get them at IRC (www.gamesurge.net/chat/brawlplus), but if the codeset is over 256 lines, you're required to get Brawl Geckos because our Geckos supports more than 256 lines.
2. Put the codeset in the folder named "codes" on the root of your SD card that's going to be in your Wii. You can create the folder if you don't have it.
3. Load Brawl with Geckos/Brawl Geckos and you'll have Brawl+.

Why thank you, now I have to practice with it on mine before I go to my cousin's house and install it on my other Wii :S

Thanks for giving it a try and being open minded. I respect your thoughts on the game even if it's negative now because at least you will try it.

So, have you tried it yet? Any comments?
