I'm trying to search through the file via a hex editor in order to replace values. I'm getting some information from the AC:NL save editor, but I can't figure out the structure of the file with what I know now. Can someone point me in the direction of some resources outlining how garden.dat is put together? If this is the wrong section, I apologize.
 
You can convert garden.dat to acnlram.bin with NLSE
Is that easier to modify?

EDIT: It's not. At least it seems to have a similar structure to garden.dat in that tiles aren't always sequential. So that doesn't really help. Maybe the source code to NLSE will help.
