hi,

when i was walking down the street this morning I had an idea for a DS game - stickman DS it would be like a kind of stickman fighting game (you control and fight stickmen) but unforunatley there are just some parts of game programming I just can't seem to manage, so I thought "why not make a team"! that way me and a bunch of other people could work together to try and make a homebrew DS game...

I would,,,

design and make the maps you would fight on (stick maps, to fit in)
try and fit some kind of a story into it
design what actually happens in game...

the actual idea...

/// the player controls a stickman
/// they fight other stickmen (duh!)
/// the fight is fixed to a map.

maps...

i thought of maps as like computer desks, animation software, drawing pads, you know, like arty types of places.

so...

would anyone be willing to join my new team and start work on this game with me.???

I reckon a Smash Bros style one would work better, have different colours, patterns and so on just picture it but its your project.

Has anything been done with this project yet? I'd be interested in helping, although I'm not much of a programmer. With something like XtenDS I think it could work though.

Sounds like Xiao Xiao without a thought out storyline.

What don't you get of the programming?
It's hard to get a team together if you don't know programming yourself, as most people who know programming start off as designers and then usually only work under others if they know what they're doing and are putting in the work (Normally in Programming). If you are an artist of sorts (Doesn't take much for sticks rly but heh), you could probably offer doing that in exchange for programming help.

http://gbatemp.net/style_emoticons/default/gbasp.gif YEAH! I've always been dreaming a stickman ds action fighting game! I used to get a sheet of lined paper and using the lines as platforms, I drew stickmen, ladders, crazy veichles, guns, weapons, and all these other cool things! I'll scan one of the drawings and I'll upload it to you soon. This will be the best game ever! java script:add_smilie(%22:nds:%22,%22smid_%22)

I think Game streaming should work like this.... Local Hardware able the run the game fine, game engine and common assets stored locally, all FMV and music and textures could be streaming

    Some temporary storage

also @BigOnYa im making some progress on my gdevelop project, implemented various mechanics

They went all in on streaming, should have been more of a hybrid approach

Or free government supplied high speed internet be nice also. Like Obama care. Xdqwerty that's cool, its time consuming but rewarding once done or playable, to see what you've made from scratch. Animations take forever, but worth it.

@BigOnYa, although the bullets are a bit buggy

Not to mention this would be a massive pain to pirate

    @BigOnYa,
and the visual aspect of the game is quite crude (the sprite that looks best is that of the protagonist just because he is a stickman with sunglasses)

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
There is a bullets behaviour you assign to your character, that makes the code easier, under "behaviours"
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
i meant that when the character is pointing to the right, the bullets spawn where they should, but when he is on the right, they move to the right but the spawn point is incorrect
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Itch.io has lots of free assets also. Under the bullets behavior tab, there is a "rotate bullets" option, can try that. Or in the code can try
    - fire bullet Player.X(PlayerDirection)

im taking a break for today anyway

That's cool tho, I'm proud of you going back to it, not giving up. It is difficult at first to learn, but fun once you get the hang of it. I think I've watched every tutorial video there is, but I still struggle sometimes to get stuff to work right. But gotta keep trying dif things, and eventually you will get it right.
