I've been trying to ask at the official DesMuME forums, but they've been having hosting problems for a little while now.
Basically I'm wondering if there's an easy way to view the contents of RAM and edit the values at certain addresses. Or maybe a different emulator would be better for that?
I'm using DesMuME 0.9.12, and as an example, I'd like to edit the map notes in The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, so that I can have detailed maps or other images saved on them without having to draw them all by hand. The notes seem to be stored as basic 1-bit bitmaps. I couldn't edit save states because DesMuME compresses them, and I couldn't edit battery saves because without the right checksums, the game thinks they are corrupted. And while the emulator can make a raw dump of RAM, I don't see any way to edit values or reload an edited dump.
Any ideas would be welcome, thanks!
