Steins;Gate: Elite - Intro Trailer

Steins;Gate's revamped release might have been delayed into 2019, but Spike Chunsoft is still teasing it by showing off the opening movie to the game, letting us see the new intro. Steins;Gate Elite takes the story of the original visual novel and replaces static character art with animations right from the series' 2011 anime. The western release is set for Early 2019, on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC.

Also included will be the side stories Linear Bounded Phenogram for those on PC and PS4, and 8-BIT ADV for Switch players.

I'm curious as to how they'll use animation for the entirety of the visual novel. Are they just going to use the same handful of speaking "gifs" for each specific location? The anime is approximately 7 hours long, and the visual novel is roughly 5 times that.

Also, obligatory "I wish the first version I played was the definitive version."

I like the original art style. Not sure what to make of Elite tbh.
The water color art certainly is unique, something Steins;Gate 0 doesn't quite capture. That being said, I thought they did a great job with the anime. Time will tell what the full game will be like, but the only Steins;Gate related that has ever been bad was 0's ending, so I don't see them screwing it up.

Footage of old and new can be seen in the video.

All of the "old" are just that: old. It's being used to show the difference between the traditional visual novel style and the new animated style, as evidenced by the fact that each "old" footage is followed by "new" footage.

I am a big S;G fan... but I'm really not feeling this one.

I think both the VN and anime have their charm and think of each as their own thing.

Well... moving forward this is probably better to immortalize it. So sure.

TBH I'll just get it for the Linear Bounded Phenogram extra, and wish they'd have bundled all the extras together instead of splitting them between the Switch and PC/PS4 release.

@Chary here's the official upload of the opening:

EDIT:
Ooops derp, just realized that the one you posted was uploaded by Spike Chunsoft, I thought that was the fan-uploaded one from a few weeks ago since it has the same thumbnail.

That said, the one that was uploaded last month was shared by Chiyomaru on Twitter and was still unfinished. It had some typos in the names and the explosion at the end was a different color.

Maybe it's going to be something like Zero escape 3? Where they have cutscenes instead of normal text with a still image dialog. Though this is just a guess lol

The actual gameplay has already been shown, though whether the entire visual novel is like that or not is unclear. But no, Zero Time Dilemma had (awful) animated character models whereas S;G Elite will have actual anime footage. It's not really a cutscene (semantics, I know) if there's literally no non-choice gameplay; 99% of the visual novel isn't interactive.

I wonder if this game is worth to play if one has watched the anime and OVA's.
Definitely. As I said before, the visual novel is roughly 5 times the length, so you'd be getting roughly 5 times the content, although a good portion of it is filler. Some of those (bad) endings are really killer, and you miss out on them if you've only seen the anime. "Episode 13" is also much more heartbreaking. But, if you were to ask me if this game is worth playing if you've already watched the anime and read the visual novel twice like me (once many years ago and again before S;G 0 to refresh myself)... I'm not sure. It'll depend on what other games are coming out around that time.

Oh I see, that's far better honestly. And you're right, the animation was horrid, but for a 3DS title, it was somewhat acceptable.

This. If they are cutting content to match the anime video sequences with the VNs text, then it’s not worth releasing it.
