This is what works for me (and I have confirmed it working with several USB Loaders), using the DVD9 version (i.e. Full Version), Install Hermes cIOS installer rev2 as 37 merge 36 for 222. Then select IOS 222 for your USB loader. The reason I recommend rev2 is because you get random freezing with rev3.

Looks like different people have different solutions to this problem. This worked for me.

Firmware 3.2E
USB Loader GX
DVD9 ISO

Install Hermes cIOS installer rev2 as 60 merge 36 for 223.
Configure USB Loader to use IOS 223 and PAL60

Worked fine, including loading back to the system menu.

(On my Wii, 37 merge 36 for 222 just left me with a blank screen when attempting to load SSBB using 222).

I'm also experiencing random freezes in SSBB using the latest Hermes CIOS. I'd like to try Rev2 but I can't find it anywhere... Do you know where I can download it?

thanks, very kind

Had the same issue on System Menu 3.2E waninkoko's cIOS rev14 & latest USB Loader GX.
Fixed it by doing the following:
Installed Hermes cIOS by following these instructions & changed the game settings in USB Loader GX for SSBB to use IOS222 & block IOS reload.
So IOS249 is still wanin's cIOS38 rev14 for the other games, but SSBB uses hermes cIOS36 on IOS 222.
Hope that helps ...

thank you so much. this is what i needed to find

when i click "wii menu" it just goes to a black screen but i found out that u can just click "Reset" instead on the home button menu and it will still take u back to the system menu without any freezing
