Hacking SSBB Hacked Characters freeze game?!

Oksy, so I have been having a problem. I will go to Group Brawl and select a character that I have modded. Game will run for a second, disconnect my controller, then freeze. Sometimes, I can go to a single character skin, and it will work, but that isn't always the case. Any ideas?

Could be various reasons, it could be corrupted or incorrect texture format, badly rigged. Another major issue is that the file size is exceeded even by a few KB, this will cause the game to lock up. Possibly a file name mismatch, if it's a mod for Ike, the format for his mods are "FitIke0X.pcs" and "FitIke0X.pac", so if you get a download, it must match one of the character slots.

Again, the hack itself is likely corrupted for being too big, having the wrong texture format, poorly rigged, all these cause an in-game crash.

Are you replacing the in-game files from a SSBB.iso?

That could be the problem, you are replacing a character file not knowing if it is broken or not. Are you playing from a Wii or emulator on a Pc?

I am playing from my Modded Wii. Usually though, I test it on Dolphin if it is for Ike or another character I like.

You do know there is a way to play with certain characters with out replacing them on the actual iso meaning you still replace a character say Mario with a character say MarioB. This method requires you to put the .pacs files you downloaded in a specific folder and use a certain cheat to enable these character overrides. If you test the characters that you think are faulty you might find which one it is without having to constantly use wiiscrubber.

Now, assuming you have everything I listed, let's get started on the actual objective
here: being able to replace files in Brawl. In the root of your SD card (where apps should
be), make a folder named "private" if there isn't already one. When you have your private
folder made, open it. Now, make the following folders within eachother:
wii -> app -> RSBE -> pf
Now that you have that series of folders within eachother, you're at a multi-fork in the
road. However, I'm going to teach you about how to replace
Character Textures/Movesets.
Let's start with Characters. In pf, make a folder named "Fighter". Now, depending which
characters' files you want to replace, you'll have to create different folders. Today's
example will make one of Kirby's textures look like a custom made Majora's Mask. Create a
folder named "kirby". Open it, then download the file in the following link:

It should be a ".pcs" file. Become familiar with these, as this is what you will need to
do replacing for character textures. Now, here are some general rules of these:
-These only work for whichever character they were made for. Do NOT download a .pcs
without knowing where it should be used.
-The files themselves aren't enough. You must also rename them. They are in the basic form
of "FitFighterXX.pcs". Depending on which character and it's texture you're trying to
replace, you'll have to name it differently.


Basically you need a file patch code^ the above and a series of folders on your SD card like so
Private/Wii/app/rsbe/pf/fighter
Inside that fighter folder is where your custom characters go so if you wanna replace Ike it would go like
fighter/Ike/download files.pac and/or .pcs
Now when you load the game through usbloader you enable cheats and start the game.

i really think you should study up and learn rather then continuously post new topics about the same thing.
and there youll learn what your doing wrong , and how to fix the characters that freeze your game.

Question about the tutorial: Is it only for Disc Copies, or also ISOs?

Failing that, you can extract the ISO, use Wii Backup Fusion, recompile the ISO image after replacing the file. Way easier to use than WiiScrubber. The Gecko OS, etc method can work in Dolphin, but is somewhat trickier. Maybe I'll make a tutorial on how to do it or something. One way is getting a download from a reputable modder, i.e. based on the no. of downloads the person has for his hacks. That's what I do, I have some hacks on there myself All of them work perfectly, too
