I mean ppl already have an update fetish on the S1 :rofl2:, so none of this will matter to most owners. That day 1 patch is going to be a must have even if you have any hopes of an exploit. Wait any longer then you are forced to update to the latest FW just to get S1 compatibility or the express card. Who's to say an exploit could stem from an S1 game cart.

That's assuming some carts don't come with firmware updates.
I think I'll post a thread for game releases with updates.

SciresM has confirmed that he will not develop Atmosphere for Switch 2
i for one, am absolutely distraight to hear this news. my switch has been online with no emunand since the day got it. no bans, obv cant play "the" games online but all they do is give an error if i try access online functions. freebies like tetris 99 and purchases like splatoon 3, all work as expected

i am so sad =[

You have absolutely no reason to be. Given that Switch 2 will still be very popular and given that Atmosphere is open source, even if the original author really decides not to support it ( this can change too despite what he says now 😁) , someone else will certainly fork it to make it switch 2 compatible.

It's hard to protect against hard-mods. The most evil thing to do would be to bury the cmd, clk, or dat0 line (or all 3) in the 3rd layer of a 4 or 5 layer board, with another trace that runs right over/under it on different layers. To prevent kamikaze...

Wow no yawn emoji. Okay.

So, speculating on horizonos 21. With all of this security stuff like "assume unsecure BPMP but add TZ", "no hopes no dreams for code execution", "execute-only memory present", etc..
are all of us like that hopeless? I agree doing a switch 1 move would be ridiculous (and we probably should consider that the xbox one (can someone help me a bit w/ that?)+ps5 are softmoddable at best), but if the stars align, what stops us?

What I'm saying is "do anything". Okay, bootrom will be patched, sure (knowing Nintendo's history with that I'd be more optimistic). External media will probably be secure. So on so forth, everything is patched. Except for whatever small thing that could just be unpatched.

My point is:
Why not try to do some userland homebrew? Anything basic? A snake game that I don't have to pay for (XD) will be nice.
The 3ds had to start with that (and even then piracy mostly, but still, ninjhax escalated from a title). The wii u started with that.
If we consider that puyopuyo demo at 34c3, it also gives me a bit of hope. Why not make something in the browser?
If horizon was reversed A-Z, then I guess the browser was reversed too. Is there like absolutely nothing? Not even within the limits? Of course the limits don't assume a "usable web browser environment" or web development, of course not.
Sadly most the people here only care about piracy and nothing more.
Post automatically merged:

Sorry man this is 2025, 70 bucks minimum for a snake game
Funny enough I think Welcome Tour has a snake-like game so $10 it is lol.

It'll be either a modchip or a network exploit (similar to PS4/5), I can't imagine Nintendo or Nvidia making the same mistakes as the Switch 1 - "Insert a teaspoon into the cartridge slot to boot into Linux"

The browser doesn't have jit enabled, so code execution in the browser is limited to rop and interpreted Javascript. Rop is something you can use for some poc stuff, but not really for a homebrew ecosystem with usefull apps.
So to make anything usable, we would need to also take over other system modules with higher privileges, likely more then one.

And for full on cfw, which would allow for rom hacking, full homebrew execution (but also piracy) and emunand (useful depending on the entrypoint, to allow normal online usage while staying on the exploitable firmware) , we need to at least take over the kernel, better the trustzone. But both are so small, that there is not a lot of attack surface, which is why we don't have any soft mods on anything more recent on the switch either.

New hardware protections likely also make attacking via glitching likely much harder, so its much harder to get consistent glitching in a small end user level device.

People will likely look into the switch 2, and maybe nvidia or Nintendo fucked up somewhere or everyone missed something, that would be nice, but being realistic, it's not too likely we get something everyone can use anytime soon.
Much better to go at it that way, and get positively surprised in case something is found, then to expect it to happen and never getting anything.

thats true but whatever he has done and however he's done it, that's 4 switches i have modded in identical fashion and they are all up to date, unbanned, and online without emunand

my trussssssssst is SCRIESM :'3

but yeah i do think it could be some time given any tampering so far is just BOOM brick

He won't make any CFW for the Switch 2.

You guys underestimate the power that AI has unlocked. My guess is with the insane capabilities of coming AI systems, hacking the switch 2 will be easier than any console before it. Though this works both ways since nintendo also uses these systems.

However, given the fact that every single nintendo console to date has been hacked, it is high likely the Switch 2 will be no different. It's not a question of IF, but of WHEN.

I agree it's a question of when, not if. The system is completely locked down (unlike xbone/series consoles) and hackers will love the challenge of breaking into it.

But AI is not going to play even the slightest role in hacking the Switch 2. :rofl2:

The Switch 2 won't be hacked... because... uh... BECAUSE I SAY SO!!!11

Lol @ thinking AI is going to help. AI can't even write me a world of warcraft macro correctly.

This cuts both ways. Nintendo is surely using AI to look for vulnerabilities in their hardware/software as well so it's kind of a moot point.
