Sony showcases first footage for its MediEvil remake

After 20 years since it's original release, Sony has shown off the first bit of footage for their remake of MediEvil, a classic game that was from the days of the PlayStation 1. Other Ocean Interactive is in charge of fully remaking the game with brand new visuals in 4K. MediEvil's remake was first announced at PlayStation's PSX 2017 event nearly a year ago, and has a planned release frame for 2019. The trailer also clarifies that this will not be just a remaster, but instead will be remade from the ground up for the PlayStation 4, with the gameplay trailer occasionally flashing between the original graphics and the modern version to compare the changes that have been made.

Just what I was worried of. The original game had a much darker feel to it, and that was palpable from Zarok. From the moment we see Dan die, to Zarok raising the dead and turning even children into a recruit of his army, to the moment you end up attacked by those said children. It was a grim game with the games comedy coming from the unwitting Hero having to prove his title and his interactions with his peers. Not from the world itself. This trailer chose to omit those things and instead focus on a happy go lucky spooky theme that feels straight out of a hocus pocus film, not a game of redemption against the army of the undead and possessed children under the command of one evil man.

Well, maybe because of the Halloween? Either way, the game does look great, but let's hope that the grim atmosphere survives.

A very good game, it was. The remake kinda reminded me of PS2's Maximo. I just hope that the comedic factor is not too prevalent. You make very good points.

The gameplay still looks awfully janky to me, but I'll wait to see more of it when it's out.

I on the other hand find myself going with optimism. A scene for scene remake with combat that is acceptable today works for me. Graphics wise you are never going to get the anarchic PS1 days feeling back so I will take what they are putting out there.
