Back in the PSP days, Sony released the PSPgo which was completely digital-only for its games and did away with the UMD disc drive (great idea but poor execution), though the one thing that not many were aware of.. The PSPgo Dock -- Or officially known as, the "Cradle" station.
I read this about the PSPgo on GBATemp not too long ago, I honestly can't remember the thread or user who brought it up but it's here anyway.
Really a shame that Sony is such bollocks with their handheld gaming systems. This could have been amazing! Whilst I don't own a PSPgo or the PSPgo Cradle, I do have the PSTV micro-console but it's not 100% identical and smooth in emulation speeds as the PSP itself was (at least not on 3.20 OFW with the PSP exploitable method).
Anyway, if Sony stepped out of the handheld gaming market it would make sense because they've never did a good job supporting their own handhelds like Nintendo does. Even Nintendo supported the dead-on-arrival - WiiU all the way through 2017. This is moreso than what can be said about Sony and the Vita.
