That Sonic Fan Remix is nice but I'm as excited about getting my hands/eyes on this. The video in the first post doesn't do it justice.
Check out the 1080p

Then I saw this...

and boy, was I like:

THAT looks different. And holy damn, does it look good.

Well actually I do little agree with you. If you think about HD it would be awesome. The colors are definitely better but the graphics for the level however are still old school and are in my eyes not that
awesome.
QUOTE(Bladexdsl @ Jan 16 2011, 08:01 AM) THIS is HD! http://sega-addicts.murnaumusic.com/?p=5860

LOL. Yeah if you compare it like this, I have nothing to say loool.

Ok it looks good, that can be said about any trailer! SEGA is tired of making Sonic games, the reason they can't stop is because of the demands from fans. Yugi Naka wanted the whole Sonic franchise to die, it couldn't due to popularity it had gained. You can't kill something that has a life of its own. So SEGA keeps continuing spewing out halfass games with no compassion behind it. (Don't give me, 'Sonic Colors' was awesome,) That game was a beta tester, a price game only to get you loving it till you it was too short! No, SÉGA did that on purpose so they don't overused the gimmick on the gameplay!

Look at what SEGA is reduce too, remaking 2D levels into 3D levels from 1, 2, 3 and Knuckles? IF they couldn't make FOUR lzones a remark masterpiece for Sonic 4: Episode I? What makes you think their chances of success in remaking the classic levels? Huh?!?

this looks far better then anything sega has made in years, which is sad, really.

Also, somewhat offtopic, I wish this was a real game

If you think about it, HD simply means high definition. What we've got here is freshly drawn graphics that run natively at 1080p (rather than crap upscaling like on Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection), built-in widescreen, remastered music that's not just Genesis midi, more frames of animation (watch Sonic's running). Technically, this is HD, and by all means, a significant improvement, and utterly impossible on the Genesis.

The idea of this project is to make the game "good looking" with high def gfx while still looking the same as the old game, hence it seems to make no difference when seeing it on a small window. BUT when you take a look at it on a bigger screen you can see it's really nice to be able to play it with the same graphics (no pixelation) on a higher resolution as on the lower resolution.
And all (ALL) the graphics were remade from zero by the fellas from retro sonic (that by itself is quite impressive, specially when, like me, you followed the discussions about how "that blue tone" were so worng when compared to "that other blue tone").

still no difference to me that's what it looks like in gensX GX with filters ON

You do realise the beginning of the video is the old version? I'd wager that you've looked at the first 10 seconds and then jumped to your conclusions.

FACTS: [*]Sonic 2 HD is proper HD and not comparable to an emulated Sonic 2 rom with a nice filter ON.[*]Sonic 2 HD is far more than just a high res texture pack for Sonic 2. (LOOK)[*]Certain 'tempers will shit all over release/news threads with lulzy predictability./rant

HD= High Definition.

Watch the vid in 1080p guys...and for the REALLY ignorant ones, watch the whole video instead of the first half -_-

Looks frikkin sweet, would love a PS3 port!

Cant wait for this to be released, just hope it doesn't go down the same road as 8 Bit DJ Hero. Still bemuses us how Sega/S Team cant do anything like this and a bunch of loyal fans can..

You know, Sega, it's really sad when a handful of amateurs can make a better game than you can. ITS YOUR FUCKING FRANCHISE! If you were smart, you would have these folks on your payroll instead of doing the obvious, which is issue a C&D and kill any chance you have of bringing your fans back.
They are totally copying a game Sega made and just upgrading the graphics? Sega doesn't need to hire special people for this.

Tbh I don`t see how upscaling this old game enhances the experience... I think games like this have their charm because of the graphical limitations of the time and upscaled it just looks bland.

I rather play it on an emulator...

Amazing.

I believe SEGA should now turn over the rights to Sonic over to these fine people. They will treat him right.

Until you know anything about video games besides just playing them, just don't open your mouth. You show how truly ignorant you really are. This isn't Sonic 2 with just a fresh coat of paint. Sega didn't hand over the source of the game and just said "Okay, have at it guys, have fun!" Which means that they for one needed to do the level designs by scratch, and the physics engine also by scratch. That, i'm sure is miles above what you are capable of, i'll bet my left testicle on that.

It's impressive that they remade everything about the game from scratch and still kept it more or less faithful, but I have to side with King Zargo a little bit here. While it is nice looking, I don't particularly see the benefit. This is coming from a person who doesn't particularly care about high definition and is more interested in actual content, and while the idea of a level editor and extra zones does grab my attention a little bit, I'd have to see what that actually entails. But ultimately when you boil it down, it's a double decade old game that is being made brighter and more colorful. From a programming and designer standpoint, it's impressive, but from a gamer standpoint, I don't feel there's much I would personally get out of it. Now a full fledged remake like that one video that was floating around, that would be something really worthwhile. Not saying people aren't allowed to enjoy this, but not everyone has to.

I do have to kind of point out though that when you say "amateurs making a better game than Sega" that they are rebuilding the game Sega made from the ground up. That's not exactly making a better game, unless you just think the classic game in high definition is the best a Sonic game can be. That's not meant as an insult, just an observation.

A very well thought out and articulated reply is much more than I hoped for in this thread. While I disagree with you, I do see your points, though this essentially is Sonic 2 with fresh graphics, as far as the stanpoint of the average gamer goes, THAT my friend is what the (die hard) fans want (just my observation). The die hard fans don't want a brand new experience, they want to play a game and remember what it was like playing an AWESOME sonic game.

I would be willing to bet that anyone past the age of 21 is looking at this with nostalgia goggles, which isn't a bad thing, it just makes the experience that much better.

Furthermore, I would also be willing to bet anyone that looks at this and scoffs was born N64 era or later.
