Hi Guys,

I currently have a 500gb hdd installed in my xbox (v1.2), but I'm planning on installing a 2tb hdd, and I just need some clarification on a couple of issues before I buy the larger hdd.

My modchip currently has the X2 4981.06 bios, which apparently doesn't support 2tb hdd's.

I realise that updating the bios would be the easiest solution, however, the modchip is an X.B.I.T v1.0 with the external PCB which connects to a PC via USB to flash the bios. The flashing software requires winXP and specific USB host controllers, and so far, I haven't been able to get it work.

The modchip has dip switches on the external PCB, so I can actually disable the chip completely.

My plan is to ultimately TSOP flash the xbox and install the newer bios which allows 2tb hdds.

I just have a couple of questions regarding what would be the best way of doing this.

Can I install a softmod whilst the modchip is still enabled, and then disable the modchip to allow me to TSOP flash it, or will the softmod and modchip together cause problems?

If I have to disable the modchip to install the softmod, will the xbox even boot up with the current 500gb hdd installed (even if locked), as I don't have the original stock hdd?

Thanks.

ok, great. Thanks DinohScene.

So, just to clarify, can I install the softmod whist the modchip is still enabled, or do I need to disable the chip and then install the softmod in the traditional way with a copy of splinter cell, etc.

I used to softmod before hardmodding not knowing I could hardmod and go staright in. Never had an issue.
