I have a hardmodded xbox, but the modchip appears to be dead. No matter what buttons or combination of buttons I press or hold it always boots to the original MS dashboard. I don't want to deal with opening the xbox again and trying to fix the modchip or install another one. I know having a modchip is superior in some ways, but I'm passed that. So, my question is, is there anyway to just softmod my xbox in a way that it will just boot to UnleashX and give me access to all the things I had previously installed? Can anyone give me any insight on how I would do this? Again, I don't want to install anything new, I'm just wondering if there is a way to do a softmod so that I have access to everything that's already on there. I also noticed that I have the splinter cell, mech assault, and 007 agent under fire save files on my hard drive for soft modding, would I be able to just use those if I got a copy of one of those games? Thanks to anyone who replies or can offer insight.

Hello. :)

A view on your Modchip would be very helpful, maybe a cable has come of or the Modchip is no longer sitting properly.....
Restoring/fixing is also a good base for helping because of maybe get access to the Content of your HDD and Partitions. Not to now "what is going on" on your HDD and doing some things like doing a softmod is honestly a not so good idea.

Without knowing anything all further doings is a "gambling".

I am not sure if a Softmod with Exploit works now.In the ideal case all needed files from the original XBox C: Partition are there where they have to belong. And it works maybe. But also the chance of NOTHING more goes is also there.:(

But maybe THERE is your Issue, maybe the Dashboard from your previous working Mod is deleted or damaged,i do not know it.

Please think over your prerequisite about not opening/try to fix the modchip.Maybe then we can help you.
Thank you.:)

Thanks for the reply. Right now time is a commodity for me, but if I get a chance in the future I may open it up and take a look at the chip to see if something has come loose. I just figured and I'm still hoping I could just fix the problem with a soft mod.

Just wanted to give an update. I swapped out the AID disc I had in the system with the Hexen disc. It booted to a black screen, I shut it down and turned it on a second time and my system booted back in to UnleashX. I have no idea why that worked or if it was just luck, but everything is working fine now. I copied over the files for UDDAE in case the modchip dies again I will hopefully have a way to softmod.
