How do you make the perfect float? Whenever I try to make one, I always end up with way too much head. What should I be doing?

Anyways, the only float I know how to make is a Root Beer Float.

I first put ice cream in the cup at the bottom, then I pour the Root Beer over, and VIOLA. Lot's of people add the ice cream when the soda is already in, which is a no-no.

Help me find new floats!

Here in Michigan, people like to drink Vernors floats. Vernors is a very strong ginger ale. Really, just about any soda is good.

And I always get lots of head when I make a float. The only way to get rid of it is to scoop it out, or just suck it off.

Umh.... What "float" is??
it is properly called an "ice cream soda", at least in the civilised world.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_cream_soda

The ice cream soda, float (United States and East Asia), spider (Australia and New Zealand) or brown cow (Hong Kong) is a beverage that consists of one or more scoops of ice cream in either a soft drink or a mixture of flavored syrup and carbonated water. The tiny bubbles of air present in the soda cause the ice cream to float and are nucleation sites for the formation of large bubbles of carbon dioxide. This gives the beverage a "foamy head" similar to a beer head.

Says the "pimp".

And for the record, the foamy top of a beer (or in this case, an ice cream soda) is commonly called a "head".

WHOA! What!? Someone is taking my word? I am the only "pimp" on this board and it shall stay that way. No one else is a "pimp"... except for Toni.

Anyways, Floats, I don't know how to get no head on it. Try putting in the ice cream and then tipping the glass while you are pouring in the soda. Like they do with beer to get the most minimal amount of head in it.

Root beer floats are the best kind.

The foamy head is by far the best part of the float. The cold of the ice cream always ends up slushing up the head, then you can just scoop it up.
