Hacking So what happens next month?

Oceanborn, this could be associated to the 360. Sure, Nintendo hasn't done anything until now besides putting the typical DSi firmware update that blocks flashcards (but not really, as we can see) but these things take time. I agree that this specific year they would have a hard time if they couldn't sell games to their customers because they stopped their services for them, but piracy would cause them the same problem. So I say, regardless of seeing this as a "dick move" that will cause them losses, it could still happen and it happened multiple times through different platforms. The device has been advertised with these features indeed, but so were other consoles advertised with online features that were stopped by console bans.

Let's suppose Nintendo does something similar to the DSi or the Wii. Updates were needed for online services outside of games, such as the virtual console, wiiware or dsiware. Of course you could upgrade your flashcart firmware so you can run it on these new updates, but how frequently will it happen now? How much time would someone have to wait after any official update to get them working? If they released a fair amount of early demos and 3D classics, it would be a problem. Plus we wouldn't probably have release dates for firmware updates, and we would have to stop using things like streetpass just to prevent that data from being downloaded into our beloved consoles. Regardless of how legal it is or not, there's still a possibility they could automatically update the whole thing without a confirmation.

I'd rather be pessimistic about this and wait for a month than jump in because most assumptions fall into "they won't do that because it wouldn't be beneficial for them".

the console doesn't auto update not from street pass nor from online. what's even more when the battery was depleted on mine, it returned to the previous firmware before I had the video update and all the history on any games played was gone, playing the game didn't bring the hours i spent in the games either and my friend code was changed and my mii gone so basicly it returned to when i bought it mode.

as long as they dont 3ds roms nintendo is going to put little effort into the security. really who is going to pirate the shovelware thats comin out and the good old games have already been pirated. there not worryed about the ds roms anymore

and what do you mean oceanborn about pokemon and mariokart not having full capability,i know you said pokemon has an ir device on the actual cart that limits you, but what about mario kart?did you mean ds version?cause i havent noticed any difference on playing MK from my dstwo or from original, its the same ,or do you mean the 3ds version?are they planning on using some unique hardware in that games cart?
I didn't say anything was wrong with those two games. What I said is that Pokémon and Mario Kart are the only games that really use the internet for gameplay. There may be a few others, but those two are the only ones that get enough attention to really care about. Nintendo has never been big in online gaming so blocking people from online won't matter to that many people.

That's kinda scary. You're saying your system was restored to factory defaults when the battery went out? That may be good, erasing the activity log but the bad far outweighs the good. You should drain the battery once more and see if it happens again. If it does, maybe you should report to Nintendo about it.

That's really, really strange.

I was assuming that they would have probably unaccessible system logs for that just like the Wii. But if what you're saying is true, holy crap. A new friendcode...?

yeah im not buying this thng untill the good games come out, there are too many great games announced for me to waste time and money on the crappy release titles,id rather save for kid icarus, and OOT,and mari kart and paper mario ,resident evil and hopefully mario,im not buying untill atleast 2 of those titles are out and they update the firmware to add a web browser store access and a 3d video recorder, and netflix
,in my opinion it shouldnt have been releaseed with this crap line up of titles and all these missing capabilities, they could have atleaat gave us a great pack in game like kid icarus, then they really would have sold these things like crazy at launch, whatever happened to the concept of a pack in game?the industry has gotten really cheap,i remember getting my snes with mario waorld on the console launch date, now that was smart marketing, not this crap they do now a days, they gav our one of the best titles right when you bought the new system,i remember staying up till i beat it with my friends,
now not only do they not give you a game as a pack in at launch ,but they dont even release any muct have titles, such as a mario game at the console launch, and not even till months later, then they wonder why they didnt sell like they thought they were going to
when they were taking pre-orders the people in the store were all like"oh well if you dont pre-order ,you wont be able to get one till the next shipment and that wont be till like july"yeah right they can get rid of em

honestly i hope the first hack surfaces AFTER we get the features i mentioned in a fw update ,i would hate to have to play the game of,"do i update and get the new features and loose my homebrew ,or stay on ld fw and have homebrew but no new features, that will suck

plus i know i will fall for buying one when any of those games come out ,and then ninty will pull an apple and release a much better hardware revision in just under 1 year
leaving me stuck with the original version ds eqivalent of the 3ds
dont you just corporations and planned obsolescence?

One next this month and beginning of next month will have all the stuff that you said is lacking. Plus Idk wrong with street fighter,Samurai Warriors: Chronicles,
or one of those racing games ( I'm not sure which one) as a much have launch title.

I doubt one year, maybe ~2 years.Which doesn't mean obsolete, some may want the original.

Like dsi XL may be to big for some people... I think.

Find someone you hate who has a 3DS
Stick your own flashcard in their 3DS (that sounded a bit dirteh)
Turn the device on and off.
?????
Profit!

I think that is one of many reasons Nintendo would never brick someone's 3DS.
