why does the guide say "renamed boot2_usb.bin"

If you compile the neek sources, you get 3 versions. The uneek version has the name boot2_usb.bin.
So, you need to rename that to kernel.bin...which is why they refer to renamed boot2_usb.bin.

When you launch a channel from the system menu, it's id is placed in a file and the system sort of restarts internally.
It checks that file and launches the channel of which it's id is placed in it.

I am a little afraid it could be a harddisk issue. In the proces of internally restarting, the usb ports are reset and reinitialised.
I assume that some harddisks don't respond fast enough to this reinitialisation.
I am not 100% sure about this, but if you have another disc or stick to test with, I would give it a try.
You just need the sneek, games and nand folders of it. If it still behaves that way, it's likely another problem.

Hi, I can finally get back to you...

The first harddrive that I tried to use was a 500GB external WD MyPassport (has no power source), and then I also tried to use a 500GB external WD MyBook (does have its own power source). Neither of the two work, and both produce the same problem of having a black screen when I try to launch anything.

I read 1 page Faq. But have some questions about Sneek+Di:
1. First try i download Nand with modmii and SneakAutoinstaller (all latest versions) - 1 screen.. resync moute but then only black screen (FS on SD Usb + 1 game sa i think correct)
2. Then try to load only sneek with my own virgin extracted nand - it boots perfectly.
3. May be it's not best opinion but i try to sync ticket and title folders of my and downloaded Nand with total commander and it works. But have
2 short flashes: The TMD of the IOS the current title uses is missing (find out what ios the game needs and install it to sneek nand)
I have 4 games, and only RabbitsHome works (I think it find's necessary IOS).
4.I download Ios's with Modmii and install all with showmiiwads and was able to run 2 more games (2 short flashes i have anyway).
Actually, I tried downloading IOSes with ModMii, then installed them with ShowMiiWads, and booted it up.... to discover that my custom theme was gone, but games loaded! Rock Band 3 went through the initial loading screens, then froze at a black screen before the title screen showed. Other games seem fine, though. Went to JoyFlow, loaded Warriors of Rock (which was labeled "Sample Game" again, for some reason), and it froze "checking for updates" in the Shop. Dammit!
But the last game i have Conduit 2 didn't work. With wit.exe i see that it uses 57 ios, but i already installs the latast (as i guess) version with Modmii.
Maybe some might suggest a solution of my 2 short flashes problem and how to start Conduit2 (And these problems have possible link's)

Thanks anyway.... :)

I have a problem and hope someone can help me. I had once installed sneek over a year ago but i can not make sneek+DI to work. As far as i understand you have to install a game in the usb or Sd. i tried it with a wii game on the usb it didn`t work and i also tried a GC game on the sd it didn`t work either. My question is if i start bootmii should i get a blue flash or not? Because i don`t get anything besides a black screen. i formated my sd card fat with 64kb [fat32 does not have that option]. I used a sneek+di & nand from modmii. Can anyone give me an advice what i should do differently?

@dmc2010

Is it just sneek + di that isn't working, or is sneek alone not working either?
Can you give more information about the installed game on usb?

The blue flashes are an indication of an error. You don't want them.

well sneek works perfectly but sneek+di does not load and i get only black screen even after 30 minutes it stays black. I installed Prince of Persia The Forgotten Sands on the usb external hard drive. I also tried it with an installed game on the sd card this time it was a GC game Sonic collection. Since i can`t format the sandisk 2GB sd card with fat32 64kb i thought it could be the sd card itself. maybe i should get a sdhc but i am not sure about that. Do i need to also format the hdd with 64kb? I only know that i formated it fat 32 a long time ago.

EDIT:

I tried it with a fat32 64kb formated usb stick and it loaded so it has something to do with my hdd. I have 2 partitions ntfs & fat32 so I have to format the fat32 one again to test it. But on the usb stick i got an error that i should take the disc out and power off or reset the wii. I will try it with another game maybe that one was not a good game to try on or maybe a usb stick is just not suited for that i dunno. I Try it again and write what happened.

Can someone give a link to more detailed description of 2 short flashes: The TMD of the IOS the current title uses is missing (find out what ios the game needs and install it to sneek nand) ?
What steps should I do to identify problems ?

@zombie77.

Ticket and title folders are updated when you install wad's on your wii. It's not a good idea to copy those over from one nand to another.
The modmii nand should work fine, but it takes a very long time to start the first time. If you interrupt the startup during this first time, the nand becomes corrupted as some files are extracted and others aren't. It can't recover from such a situation, so you will need to copy the fresh modmii nand folders to your sd or usb drive again.

@obdc
Thanks for the explanation man! Files are extracted slower from SD (Sneek+Di) and faster when Uneek+Di.And it's good that you warned about interruption the extraction process. I'll try again.

Indeed, sd is slower.
In the wii tutorial section, you can find my poor man's sneaky backup launcher.
Somewhere in that article you can find how long it took my wii to boot the first time with a new modmii nand.

SNEEK-DI: INSERT ALWAYS A USB PEN WITH A TWO EMPTY FOLDER CALLED "SNEEK" N "GAMES" or sneek-di NOT START!!!!!

Hello Everyone,
Been trying to install SNEEK+DI for the last 5 hours, and have not succeeded,
I have a Wii 4.3u cIOS & cMIOS installed
used ModMii, got a virgin Wii Nand and stuff, followed everything step by step, the New ModMii has a SNEEK installation, so I kinda cheated on the guide, but other than that, I tried to Emulate this thing on 4.3u and 4.2u, and no luck, just been getting Blank screens for more that 3-5 minutes (30 minutes total) & the flashing Blue tray light that sometimes stays lit then turns off and on multiple times...
The whole reason I want SNEEK-DI installed on my Wii is to play Gamecube Backup games on the Front SD Card of the Wii
want to do this for my little bro b4 Xmas...
My lil bro has a 4.2u Wii (soft modded) Drive is too new for backups
and I have a Wii 4.1u i think, Kinda broken...Wii burns out Every DVD Drive I put in there, (softmodded for USB Loader GX only)
don't really care which Wii can do this SNEEK+DI, I just want this thing to work already
if anybody could help me I appreciate it...thanks for listening

been using a Kodak 2GB SD Card, nothing else...

Sneek + di it's original purpose was to play fst extracted games from an usb harddisk.
It is necessairy for di to have a neek compatible harddisk connected. If that is not the case, it will hang upon it's disk initialisation. (fat32 formatted primary partition set active)

Sneek + di also needs to find at least one fst extracted game. Not sure if it needs it on the harddisk, but it sure won't hurt to have one there in the games folder. It's possible that an fst extracted (gc) game on the sd card works as well, but you better play it safe untill you know things are working.

Previous poster says that you need a sneek folder on your harddisk. Maybe it stores it's diconfig.bin into that location, I don't know for sure. Again, putting one there want harm.

I have also noticed already that a modmii created nand can become corrupt if you switch the wii off during the extracting process (first boot). So, you better copy the original nand folders back over to the sd card if you give it another try.

Ik you remove di.bin and font.bin from the sd sneek folder, you can test the sneek without di. This will at least prove that your nand is working and that your sd card is compatible. Just make sure you use the sneek kernel.bin which is different from the sneek+di kernel.bin.

I used ModMii to install SNEEK + Dios-mios lite, but when I turn on my Wii, I'm getting no indication that anything is different. Is there any way someone can help me figure this out?

when using SNEEK+DI removing/deleting the di.bin will BREAK it and not become SNEEK!

Well, using the kernel for SNEEK+DI without the DI module runs fine for me and acts like normal SNEEK as far as i can see now.

Scratch that!.. I'm talking nonsens, because Sangor is right

I didn't load the setup i thought it was

@sangor

Just make sure you use the sneek kernel.bin which is different from the sneek+di kernel.bin.
that's why you need to replace the sneek+di kernel.bin with the sneek kernel.bin as well..
Maybe I wasn't clear enough in my message about that?

@Truegamer,

A basic sneek setup requires a bootmii folder on the root of your sd card with an armboot.bin file in it. (that one is different from the bootmii armboot.bin.It comes with sneek)
Further, you need a sneek folder with just the sneek (and not the sneek+di) kernel.bin file in it.
And finally, you need the emulated nand folders in the root of your sd card.

Sneek uses a dvd drive flashing light pattern in case of problems. The number of flashes indicate the type of error.
I have had problems before with some sd cards, but only if bootmii was installed as boot2. In that case, sneek will (try to) start right away if you switch your wii on.

To change that behavour, you can switch the wii on without the sd card in it. Plug the sd card in when the wii is running and start bootmii from the homebrew channel.

As I already explained before, if it doesn't boot to a normal system menu and you need to shutdown the system, it's best to copy the nand folders back from your pc to your sd card.
In the wii tutorial section, you can find my poor man's sneaky backup article. Maybe you can find something usefull in there as well.
(Like how long you should wait the first reboot before you get a picture.)

@katetof19

If your wii is not having bootmii as boot2, you need to run bootmii from priiloader or the homebrew channel.
That will load the sd card bootmii/armboot.bin which will run neek.

@obcd ok...heres what happened, I saw and used your tutorial, everything worked fine, Put Super Mario Sunshine on my SD Card...
got to the menu, couldn't not boot up the game, gave me an error...(unable to read disc)
pressed and messed around with the secret menu button(1) it was set to EUR(Europe) so changed it to USA, went back and selected Super Mario Sunshine, and It loaded up fine on the menu, Start up the disc...Wii Turns off!!!
so I got a lil worried, repeated the process and got the Wii to turn off after starting a gamecube game...
so I wanted to Fix this, went to boot me, followed Instructions, Selected SNEEK+DI instead of UNEEK+DI so DML can be installed automatically, did all that...replaced the files on my SD Card, and It went blank for 2 minutes, Setup the Settings, pressed A, Blank for 3-5 minutes i think, and got an error message just like before that the Wii Message board was corrupted and fixed the issue...don't know what that means, so whatever...selected Super Mario Sunshine on the secret menu, and booted up...Start on the game...Wii Turns off again
You helped alot obcd i feel like I'm getting close to playing gamecube games on Wii...but yeah, still getting errors along the way...

I probably wasn't clear enough about the fact that my poor man's sneaky backup loader was made before dml has hit the scene.
It's incompatible with dml and can't be used to launch a gamecube game. I brought it up because it can boot without harddisk, and for
that reason it's good to verify your nand folders.
The wii turning off is a normal behavour for dml when somthing goes wrong.
Some games only seem to work when your wii is capable of running bootmii as boot2.
I don't know if your wii is old enough for that? Maybe Super Mario Sunshine is one of those games?
There are a couple of threads here about dml. I think they talk about the problem in there.
