I've seen that *exact* message - on a scratched GC disc, so I assumed that it was something to do with physical defects that the decryption code in rawdump couldn't cope with. Ended up dumping it successfully on the Wii using the SD adaptor, though. I bought the LG drive from consolesource back when they were around $50, because I didn't want to risk the Wii's drive through over-use, but it looks like I may occasionally need to dump from the Wii.
