Recently I decided to soft mod my Wii as most of my discs had been getting destroyed and I wanted to back then up I decided to install usb loader gx. Now everything else works fine and I believe I followed the d2x installer perfectly, I have attached photos of my installation so that it can be checked. I have tried switching what iOS the game uses to 250,249,248 even though there's nothing installed there. I'm just wondering if anyone else could give me a hand. If you want anything like a syscheck I can add that if it's needed. Just as a note when I run the disk through the drive the recover is detected it's only when I use the backed up copy through usb loader gx that it doesn't. Thanks in advanced.

SysCheck report is your friend. Please follow the directions in the thread including posting it in spoiler tags.

FWIW you cannot load a Wii game with a stubbed IOS so I'm not sure why you tried that. Stubs only reboot the console.

Thank you very much for the swift response think I've found the problem. On inspection I think someone did a drive update when I wasn't with the Wii which may have over written my soft mod. I am currently recognise modding it to see if this improves the situation thanks very much again for the quick reply

Note: appears re installing cios fixed the issue just need to find a way to block disk updates. Game works fine now thanks for the help with a stupid mistake :)

late to the party but :

1. I heard Skylander's USB accessory only works with base56 (so you need to set the game to slot250 if it's where you installed base57), the game works with base56 but not the NFC toys.
Can you confirm it doesn't work with base57?

2. if you want to prevent the IOS to be updated with nintendo's stub, set the IOS version to 65535 (nintendo's file version is 65280)

Thanks for the reply non the less. I can confirm that the portal is recognised under cios base 57 but I installed it incorrectly and the update ended up overwriting the IOS. To counter this I installed priiloader I think it's called ( as I wanted to boot usb loader gx by default anyway ) and it has a block disk update feature which worked to allow me to use the disk drive and the custom IOS. Thanks for the help anyway. Testing your solution to set it to 65535 didn't seem to block the update ( Although may be an error on my part as I was using a different Wii to test this ) but priiloader is well documented and easy to use so am going to stick with that for now. Thanks very much for the reply.

yes, Priiloader's hack is a good solution, it prevent both Disc and online updates.

Sorry, I edited my previous message, I meant "I heard Skylander only works on base56" (not 57)
but you confirmed it works with 57 too ? thank you :)

I think it might be the other way around? I've always heard that base 57 is needed for games that use USB accessories.

This is correct, the game boots in 56 which is the IOS with the most game compatibility I believe, but does not allow for support with peculiar periferals ( excuse my alliteration there. ) When forced to boot into iOS base 57, which is stored in 250 in my case, through usb loader gx. The support for these peripherals is allowed. So by default I have all games running of base 56 but for some that need the peripherals I have them forced using 57.

Thank you, so I guess only one base is needed for all games : IOS57

I thought two games needed base56 (and didn't work with base57) as reported by some users : Skylander and another one I forgot :/
I should really write a compatibility list somewhere.

56 is not the most compatible, it's the fastest to access USB. It's why it was chosen over 57, but at the time the test was done, there were no game really requiring 57.
now I think it's best to just use 57 by default, I'm sure nobody notice the slight speed difference.
As long as you know you need to change the IOS slot for some games, that's fine to use whatever you want as default base :)

Yeah although I will check this when I next have the Wii, it was gift for a nephew I will double check it is base 57 in slot 250 but I'm 90% sure it is so it would make sense. Useful information about the differences between 56 / 57 thank you very much

I think Game streaming should work like this.... Local Hardware able the run the game fine, game engine and common assets stored locally, all FMV and music and textures could be streaming

Or free government supplied high speed internet be nice also. Like Obama care. Xdqwerty that's cool, its time consuming but rewarding once done or playable, to see what you've made from scratch. Animations take forever, but worth it.

    @BigOnYa,
and the visual aspect of the game is quite crude (the sprite that looks best is that of the protagonist just because he is a stickman with sunglasses)

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
There is a bullets behaviour you assign to your character, that makes the code easier, under "behaviours"
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
i meant that when the character is pointing to the right, the bullets spawn where they should, but when he is on the right, they move to the right but the spawn point is incorrect
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Itch.io has lots of free assets also. Under the bullets behavior tab, there is a "rotate bullets" option, can try that. Or in the code can try
    - fire bullet Player.X(PlayerDirection)

That's cool tho, I'm proud of you going back to it, not giving up. It is difficult at first to learn, but fun once you get the hang of it. I think I've watched every tutorial video there is, but I still struggle sometimes to get stuff to work right. But gotta keep trying dif things, and eventually you will get it right.
