I ran the h2test - no issues with the sd card at all that I can find. I will go back and try the process again. The card is a 8g Kingston class 4 hc.

I drag and drop the roms into diskwriter - it writes them .. then I close it. eject the card, then place in cart. Hold blue button in, insert, wait, no lights, pop out, in - 3 lights, pop out, pop in .. game shows up .. *then* try pressing button to switch and flashing blue (not crazy fast).

Where should I be when I press the blue button? in the game? at the menu? in system with the prior game closed? does it even matter?

All games I have tried have been EEPROM games -- I dont know what that is/means.

You shouldn't need to hold down the button at all. Just put the cart in your console. If a Rom is already loaded, you may not get blue light at all when inserting. I just switch the game from the main 3ds dashboard by pressing the blue button once. When selecting a new game, the light will stay solid for a few seconds the flash briefly then go off while the new game loads into the dashboard. Be sure all the roms you are loading are for the same region as your console.

Yeah all you have to do is insert the Sky3DS into the 3DS, push the blue button once (do NOT hold button in) and it should light up blue until a rom is loaded. Push button in again to change the rom. If you hold the blue button in, you will cause the blue light to flash and you'll have to remove the Sky3DS and put it back in to reset back to normal.

This is all assuming your roms match the region of your 3DS. NTSC-U (U), NTSC-J (J) or PAL (E)

Thanks guys .. pretty darn sure they are all USA roms..just doing the full process again and will update shortly.
Just for giggles .. 0040 Mario Kart 7 (U).3ds is 1048576kb according to windows - is that the right size?

okay so I wrote 4 images. Windows sees 0bytes available and shows setup.exe in filefolder.
I place into cart and into console, it doesnt see it. out and in now it sees mario kart. flashing blue light. pop out and in again .. same thing. flashing blue but the game plays.
tried quick tap . no difference, same game, flashing blue.

idk... make sure you are using latest template and disk writer from Sky3DS' website. It's normal for the microSD to only show the setup file in Windows Explorer. You should only be using Disk Writer Tool to manage your roms on the microSD card. Format>Write>Select Roms Once they are added, insert into your Sky3DS and place in 3DS. You might need to push the blue button once to launch the first rom. Then push blue button once to switch rom.

Diskwriter and the template file need to be in the same folder right?

try diskwriter 104 and template 1219 in the same folder..

16gb sd card - sd formatter, copied 2 roms over. Inserted cart, rapid blue light flicker. then out . nothing showed. popout and in, ridge racer (u) starts up.
No blue lights.
Hot damn .. press once, steady blue then pilot wings (u) starts up!
Press once, steady blue then ridge racer shows up again!

So to conclude Kingston 8Gb 4 hc didnt work (no errors found).. and kingston 16gb did work.
Note too .. i was using the internal laptop sd slot w sd adapter with the 8gb (didnt work) whereas the 16gb I did thru the usb port and a usb2.0 adapter.

Going to add a few more roms to double confirm.

[Confirmed] Like others it boiled down to an incompatible sd card. I retried the steps with the 8gb card and what worked with the 16gb card didnt work with the original 8gb. I will return the card to the vendor as it sounds like others had similar problems.

So where are saves stored when using roms on Sky 3DS? With the blue button version I can write as many roms to the micro sd as I want. But if I play like the 11th game, will that overwrite the 1st game's save?

i saved over 20 games... i checked and all the saves are still there.

you can put your micro sd card back in the pc and transfer/backup saves and games to your pc, the ones that dont get stored on your 3DS internal card anywho

I have a problem with the continuously flashing blue light too. For me, it seems that the Sky3DS will switch games when EEPROM is set to 'no' in the diskwriter but it gets stuck whenever it gets to a game with EEPROM set to 'yes'. Your 16 gb card doesn't have this problem?

most of my games are EEPROM yes.. and I have no problems.. only ones that say NO are the Pokemons and Animal Crossing.

Yup, mine too. I dont remember which one is not EEPROM Yes, but I think Pokemons and AC is one of them. I tested both Pokemons
and AC is working fine so I have no complaint. The only ROM that is not working for me is Kingdom Heart. But that's maybe bad ROMs?
I am not sure, but I haven't got any chances to find another ROM to test.

Btw, I tested it using 32GB micro sd card class 10, with around 15++ games. It works great so far. ( But I haven't got any chance to
test online games, because I think I should update FW to the latest first? )

Can i install the update for Pokemon Alpha Sapphire without a problem?

Better, can i install any update for a game i have on Sky3DS ? or do i just push A to skip the update screen and start the game?
You can update any game you have via the eshop no problems
