Since we have homebrew now shouldn't it be possible to let the switch think we're in docked mode even if we need to plug the switch to an outlet it's fine by me, I just want those higher resolutions in some games while my TV is free for netflix :p

This would probably deplede battery life very quick and fry your Switch at the same time.:creep:

The switch display is only 720p, And I don't think that 1080p downscaled to 720 will look very good, But if it was possible just to get the performance benefits of the higher 'docked' frequency... yeah that would be nice - and should be possible soon enough.

Higher resolutions? What do you want? 1080p on a 720p tablet screen?

Jokes aside, some games might actually look better, but those don't run at 720p undocked, which I guess is pretty rare. But I'd like to be proven wrong on that.

Do you really think the dock itself helps much at cooling?
About the battery life, I don't care I would just plug my switch to an outlet while I play

I'm specially thinking of xenoblade chronicles 2, which looks horrible at some spots in undocked mode, I think it was close to 360p if I remember right from the DigitalFoundry video

The Switch get´s hotter than what's comfortable to hold in your hands while you're playing a decently intensive game. The Fan Noise should get pretty loud as well, trying to cool the system.

I think it will be a lot more complicated to enable the docked specific graphics while keeping the maxiumum 720p resolution, if we are lucky - setting the clockrate to the docked clock rate permanently might allow the game to dynamically maintain higher resolutions (if it uses some form of dynamic resolution that is not hard coded).

Honestly, probably. Not for a while though, I'd imagine. That seems like a spectacular way to destroy your battery without careful tweaking.

How? just set the switch to docked mode (just display the image on the switch's screen) whenever it is plugged into a power supply with enough power, and when ever the usb-c plug disconnects, it "switches" back to portable mode, Y does every1 have to complicate stuff?

If it's plugged into another power source, then totally, then it has the power required to run its components at full speed for longer. But "in portable mode" gives the air that OP wants to be able to play Xenoblade Chronicles 2 at docked performance while not plugged into anything.

Maybe He could use a high voltage battery bank? and when the battery bank is done with its charge, maybe the switch could revert back to portable mode to avoid frying the battery :/
or at least thats the best thing i can come up with for playing docked mode wherever you want

It's already possible to get the docked performance dude xD just obviously not resolution.

Well, on linux that is.

HOLY SHIT REALLY!? Because the only Gripe i have had with my switch is the almost laughably shit graphics some games have in portable mode (xenoblade 2, Doom, mario Odyssey with its horrid resolution trick to save on performance)

holy shit can you tell how to do it?

The problem is the Switch bricks if it's getting incorrect power. I doubt you can find a 15v battery bank that gives exactly 2.6A

Something interesting by the way TonJorn, if you press the camera button on mario oddysee, you can see what it feels like if the game wasn't downscaled and had all its shaders/shadow distances etc increased, its kinda neat and makes me want this too

yeah, i noticed that while playing the game, it just annoys me how digital foundry said the e3 build ran at 720p undocked, but the final product runs with this retarded resolution flicker to attempt to simulate 720p while saving on resources,(too bad The idea failed it looks like shit >:( )
