You can install RxTools (free) or get a Gateway (not free), they're both the same.
You use the FBI CIA installer (homebrew app) to install bigbluemenu and you use bigbluemenu to install .cias. If you're in Pasta mode (homebrew app) you can install unsigned .cias and play .cia games that you don't own.

Close SysUpdater and try it again. And again. And again... Until it works.

I already downgrade my O3ds XL from 9.4 to 9.2. I didn't upgrade to 10.3 before downgrade. Do I need to upgrade to 10.3 first in N3DS xl?

No you don't need to upgrade it works on all FW versions up to 10.3, just dont update the emunand past 9.5 on n3ds.

ok i got this extremely weird downgrade.

I just bought a new N3DS US today, it cames with 9.6 firmware.

I followed the instruction TheStoneBanana and used menuhax with ftBRONY trick, got into sysupdater in the first try, pressed Y. It ran for about 2-3 mins then "An error has occurred screen" appeared.
To my horror i tried to reboot, nothing happen, so i guess i bricked.

I went to recovery mode, tried to update to the latest firmware. However, again when the progess bar filled about 1/8 way, it failed to update and reboot.
So i take out the microsd card then for some reason was able to boot normally and saw this

So is it a fake downgrade or my lady luck helped me? Should i redo the downgrade process again?

edit: booting with microsd card inserted doesn't work.

The reason that this is occuring is that you had Menuhax installed and it's attempting to load it, the problem being that you are now on 9.2 and it doesn't like the newer hax. To fix this boot your 3ds without the sd card in it, then insert it, change the theme to clear the old Menuhax data and your set.

Well... I've reached the sysupdater app and it appeared to me to press A to update, Y to downgrade and B to exit... But the buttons dont answer my call... The only button that responds is the power button...

You haven't done anything wrong, it can take many attempts for the program to successfully grab the process it needs. Here is a few things you can try, attempt it using a different hax [Ironhax, Menuhax etc] I have seen a lot of people succeed with Menuhax. Try opening another homebrew app first, then close it with [L + R + Down + B], this works for some people. Other than that as long as nothing else appears on screen for 30 seconds, you should be ok to restart or close the program with the shortcut and try again. It took me 20 attempts before it worked properly.

Finally got it to run on my n3ds but after a lot of file installs I got an error about unable to remove something or other, 0xd8A083FA. Now it appears to be fully bricked. Lame.

also, I'm planning to downgrade a system that came with 10.1 right out of the box, it never had 9.2, is is safe to downgrade in this situation even if it never was on 9.2?

EDIT: False alarm... again? I don't know how, but I ran FTBrony for a few seconds, and this time (after a bit of a black screen), the system rebooted back to the Home screen. So.... it worked?

Yes it's fine to attempt to downgrade it, appears this is the latest: http://gbatemp.net/threads/simple-guide-to-downgrading-your-3ds.407888/page-95#post-5923820 unsure if it's the same in OP. FW wise the only problems I have heard of is 2 bricks attempting to downgrade to 4.5 from 9.2 [don't do this unless you have a hardmod, a 2nd hand PSP would be a much cheaper option for portable GBA than a brick], a 2ds shouldn't ever be taken below 6.0 [FW assumed a slider, which it doesn't have]. You also shouldn't update the emunand on a n3ds past 9.5, other than that you're fine.

You mean Pasta worked? I'm having trouble getting Homebrew working properly in emunand, but it works fine in Menuhax on Sysnand if that's any use to you. You could try installing a cia or something of the like, if it works your firmware is patched.

Took a few tries, but the FBI.cia did install. I attribute the problems to the browserhax, though. Have always had problems using it for some reason. So I guess I'm in the clear then.
