I saw the release date as yesterday and have been refreshing GBAtemp since yesterday morning looking for the news of its release

Sure, the hardware (Wii, DS) is innovative, but how innovative are the games? Mario Galaxy was innovative, but largely due to it being built for the hardware. Twighlight Princess was the same. Zelda on DS was basically the same as any other Zelda game, except the hardware AGAIN made the innovation. I consider Nintendo to be no different than Sony and Microsoft, except that they've been with us the whole time and we let them get away with it, because they put it all under the blanket of "innovation."
IT is true, but I mostly meant in a hardware aspect as far as the newer systems are concerned.
I found Phantom Hourglass to be quite innovative but the main problem with it is that it seemed like a prequel not a fulll game, once you get into using all of the weapons and pushing the fun out, the game ends, and your stuck with your tail between your legs asking for more.
Another thing I have to say about that is that while you may say that Nintendo MADE the basis for ALL of these other systems. The controller was a Nintendo 'invention' and everyone else just ran with it. SEGA did come up with a few great ideas like the memory cards for Dreamcast! Those were killer.
As far as innovation in games go, I've seen some great ones on Nintendo across the years, maybe you've just been playing the wrong ones?

Mind you since i wasn't in the mood for manuals I did the Chieftan mode to try it out. I really like how they took the direction on it with the console aspect scaling down the hours needed to finish. On the random map non-campaign mode on easy I've had to compete with 4 civs and 3 I wiped out so far. Sieging a town is NOT easy once they have archers embedded in a city as they'll just wax the crap out of your swordsman/legion though a good catapult or some revolutionary era rifleman can do the works. The city management is 50% there as you can dictate focus on resources, still pick all your units, town improvements, and so on, and even do your road making, but the higher detailed where/how to set up the farming around town, irrigation and other little things are out. Combat is handled on a quicker but still turn based pacing, and a nice thing I've noticed is a general (at least on easy) lack of random walking settlers to piss you off re-starting so-called defeated nations.
I think I put around 2 hours or so on it and I think in another 30-60 I can kick the crap out of the last party. The random map world is not tremendously huge like PC versions of the game, but it's no territorial skimp either. I only have done one random map so I have no idea if you can end up screwed on some crappy little island and have the hard road of working out. In my world I made 2 towns, swung around and pounded some barbarians all over, some place, then french, romans, arabs, and I have the zulu left to the NE and one of their 3 cities sit on an island.
I really do like this as it's the full civ thing just on a more scaled level so you can do your fun in 3hours instead of say 10 (comparing easy modes on Civ1 vs this) but I'm sure on hard it can take quite a bit of time and effort.

The ONLY reason it rated decently was that it was a very very early title and did bleed some originality and quality due to the lack of non techdemo like stuff and GBA level bs, plus that genre had no support yet. Had that game come out after Advance Wars and a few others it would have been stomped and laughed at.
I'm a big AOE2 fan, still have it installed even, though I play another game who plays the same now (Axis and Allies from 2006 on PC) so I still have the craving just on a different type of map.
Let's consider, the Wii is about as poweful as let's say a PS1/2

I'll probably say an Xbox 1, 733Mhz.. not the PS2's 298Mhz...
Give the Wii at least some credit.
Civ Revo feels alittle cluttered to me, but they have done a good job of even attempting to do this. On the PC I find Civ 3 & 4 overly complicated, especially unit promotions & vassals etc.. AI seems to cheat alot on the higher difficulties too. Civ 1 & 2 will always be my favourites. I think Sid Meier has spoiled the Civilization series by becoming overly complicated. Any comments anyone?
