So comical calling this the first home version.

The SNES had it and was like one of a few titles using the mouse, was on PSX like that guy said too, and while not consoles it also saw some love on the Atari ST, Amiga, and Mac too.

I've never played a Sid Meier's game, are they good?

I might consider getting this game if they are, I tried Age of Empires for DS and it was pretty boring.

AoE wasn't properly made to credit the original AoE.

Play a PC one, and you'll see how great it is.

Interesting, I never paid attention to N-Gage and generally considered it dead. Nice to know it had at least one good game though.
It had quite a fair few good games on it, shame they were only the N-Gage. Two Pathway to Glory games, System Rush, X-Men Legends, High Seize, Snakes, Glimmerati, Mile High Pinball, Ashen, Catan & Rifts - Promise of Power

I'm amazed that none of those got ported to GBA/DS when the N-Gage completely died. Pathway to Glory I'd love to see on DS.

They're the only reason I still have my N-Gage QD, the phone itself is shit and getting stuff to work is an arse at times.

I played the AoE PC games back in ~2002. They were really fun.

Yah AOE pissed me off how they sucked it up so bad on DS and not having learned their f'n lesson they're making a second one just like it the pricks.

The ONLY reason it rated decently was that it was a very very early title and did bleed some originality and quality due to the lack of non techdemo like stuff and GBA level bs, plus that genre had no support yet. Had that game come out after Advance Wars and a few others it would have been stomped and laughed at.

I'm a big AOE2 fan, still have it installed even, though I play another game who plays the same now (Axis and Allies from 2006 on PC) so I still have the craving just on a different type of map.

It's the first version designed for consoles in mind and not just a port of a PC version.

I think I picked it up and immediately put down the DS version. As for the PC version, I loved it and played it for months on end.

Oh, and I was looking at the new N-Gage, and it being a phone as well turned me off a lot since most phones only allow a few different services.

With Apple behind it? I don't think so.

Plus, despite the multi-touch screen and the accelerometers it does NOT have the necessary control infrastructure (I.E.: no buttons and no tactile feedback) to support a viable gaming platform.

It will however have quite a few interesting games (all platforms have good games, even black & white mobile phones had some killer apps) but like I said, it's gimmicks are not enough to convey a full gaming experience.

Do you think the iPhone is going to make a good gaming platform as well?
Your definitely asking the wrong person. I don't even believe that the Xbox/360 are gaming systems, because Microsoft does nothing but reuse old games and increase the graphics.

Agreed, it would have to be completely friggin' touchscreen and that's boring :|

The truth is that what makes a gaming platform better apart from others is innovation, and ONLY Nintendo has stood to use innovation in recent platforms (I could even say dating back to the past 4~ generations). The only thing other companies have done was increase graphical performance, and big goddamn deal. At the current rate I could make a game that would be 100GB but as realistic as looking in a mirror, so why bother with going any further?

I mean look at stuff like Spore, however as far as innovation and 'GREAT' platforms go, Nintendo is it atm.

Most of the games on the WII are used with the controllers that have accelerometers to enable the fluid movement and control. Sure gameplay and story have a lot to do with nintendo games, but keeping this purely technical, you guys think then that if nintendo's next "DS" behaved much like an iphone/ipod touch (excluding the music playing and movie function) it wouldnt be that fun of a console because it didnt have any buttons?

Seriously, I think the DS although its a cool platform it is not cutting edge...

If Nintendo innovated the way they did AND stayed top of the line on graphics the systems would cost 700+ bucks.

Let's consider, the Wii is about as poweful as let's say a PS1/2, which would be 100~150 bucks to produce.

Xbox 360/PS3 are at least 300~400 bucks to produce based on graphic capabilties and whatnot alone, (although for PS3 also bluray), and if the Wii was as strong as these systems it would make the PS3 look like pennys on the dollar.

I'm all for it, but I'm also against paying so goddamnn much, so yea...

@kildjean - Yup, Nintendo games are chop full of awesome story AND gameplay, so that makes them just overall near perfect. You can't have a great game with a shitty story and alternative. I know Sony and Microsoft have tried it, but it's failed for the most part.
What are games more than movies you can play?

apart from homebrew;) like scummvm and emulators

I can't honestly say that Nintendo has continued to innovate, when all they do is use the same franchises over and over. Sure, the hardware (Wii, DS) is innovative, but how innovative are the games? Mario Galaxy was innovative, but largely due to it being built for the hardware. Twighlight Princess was the same. Zelda on DS was basically the same as any other Zelda game, except the hardware AGAIN made the innovation. I consider Nintendo to be no different than Sony and Microsoft, except that they've been with us the whole time and we let them get away with it, because they put it all under the blanket of "innovation."
