Oh God I do not want to read that wall of text.
Fine. tl;dr

Cowon has nothing it does better than it's competitor, besides having better battery life and having drag and drop, which the competitors such as S:Flo2 and Sony X have.

Sound quality is subjective, and ZHD still offers the best UI in the market. (Which was agreed by Dominic of iaudiophile) Videos? Zune does it too with the same OLED screen, and same res. With the upcoming AVI support, I don't see how the S9 is that much better. Music? EQs sound artificial. Zune and iPod touch had gapless earlier than the Cowon. Usermade picture viewer? It's still not as good as the ZHD.

You know, its funny how you say "one person's review doesn't equal everyone's opinion", yet half of that post was "blah blah thiss member on head-fi who is so respected doesnt like the S9 so I won't! and this other guy said blah blah" You're doing the same shit. You think you have some sort of bionic hearing just because you've had more experience with audio products than I have? Well, here's a quick fact for you: you don't. You're basically trying to use my inexperience in the field against me when it's very simple to see that the S9 is a solid product and is second to none in the certain fields it represents.

The S9 doesn't "force you" to do anything. You're just too much of a conceited stuck up snob to even give the custom EQ a shot, which is just stupid. If it comes with great features like customizable EQ of such caliber, why wouldn't you take advantage of it? It's not some shitty 6 presets, it's several custom effects that make a huge difference in SQ. Just because you refused to tinker with it doesn't mean the SQ is average. You basically chose to make it average.

Yes, I'm obviously serious about the touch sensitivity. Btw, touch sensitivity has nothing to do with the UI, which apparently you don't know. Touch sensitive is basically a measure of how responsive the product is to the touch. I'm using a user-created interface and it's snappy as hell, so I don't know what you're talking about.

How exactly is it just an "ok" audio and "good" video player? It's a very good audio AND video player. As far as audio goes, it basically supports almost every format. Oh, boo hoo, it doesn't support .aac. Maybe because it's nowhere near as widespread as other formats are. As far as video goes, it supports pretty much everything except mkv. Sorry, you can't watch your Boku no Pico without converting. I'd rather be able to watch 20+ hours of converted avis than 2 hours of unconverted mkvs.

Do you really need 55 hours of audio playback? No, you don't. But it sure as fuck is better than what, not even 10 hours? That's just a stupid remark. Do you really need wifi? Well no, but it's a nice thing to have. Do you really need bluetooth support? No, but some people will really take advantage of it.

I love the S9, but I know that it's certainly not perfect. It's prefect for me, but obviously it's not for others. I don't care if people think it's overrated, I care that YOU think it's overrated, and that's because you've had that same shit mentality before even trying it out. You were convinced that it was gonna suck, and you chose to ignore half of its features. You bash it left and right and try to make it sound worse than it is, and to top it all off, you throw around my inexperience with audio products just to show you have more authority in the subject. Is that really how you're used to winning your arguments? That's not a great skill to practice, you know.

By the way, my mom had both a Touch and an iPhone. She had the Touch for over a year and a half, and the iPhone for a few weeks, so I had more than enough experience with the products. As far as the Zune HD goes, notice how I ONLY commented on the features that are plain to see, not on the sound quality or anything else like that.

And as a final note, I'll give you a little something to think about. I've had my S9 for... what, 4 months or so? And it's one of the best purchases I've made. It's basically what gets me through the school day, and I couldn't be happier with it. On the other hand, YOU have been changing your mind almost daily about what product you want because NOTHING is good enough for you. You even capriciously blew off 200-something bucks on a Zune HD only to resell it shortly after. So in the long run, who has it better?

Feel free to reply to this post and continue to take a shot at my inexperience with audio products. Since, of course, me being unable to afford 15 pairs of 'phones and several different PMPs is a clear sign that I can't have an opinion on a product's interface, design, features, etc. You gotta rate all those things with your experienced ears, right?

Gore likes this.

Sigh You're convinced that it's the best thing ever. I had this kind of thing with Dr.Kupo before. This will take too long, and I'm sick and tired of people telling me what they think and ignore a man who has opinions on both.

I really enjoyed the Zune HD. Everything about it was great. I didn't like how the album art was small, but it wasn't a deal breaker. You know why I'm selling mine? I told you this millions of times. BECAUSE MINE IS 16 GIGS, NOT 32 GIGS. I NEED MORE CAPACITY FOR MOVIES AND CRAP.

You know what I would have done if I had an S9? I'll be pissed off that the company I buy it from won't take it back, and I'll be forced to sell it cheap. It's 329.99 CAD plus 12% tax plus shipping. Almost 400 dollars right there. If I can spend that much money, why don't I just go for the Sony X series?

You know that I got a chance to try it out throughly, and it's the conclusion I came to. Yes, even though I don't like EQs, I told you in that conversation that I tried to find the setting I enjoyed. Couldn't find one after about 20 minutes of trying to find one. EQs aren't meant to make "good sound". Using it is just colors the sound, and for a lot of audiophiles, it's a big deal. You think EQ can fix colored sounds? Enjoy being the ignorant, while I'll just pursue superior audio products.

EDIT: Yuins and the RE0s have a massive sound signature difference. One is bassy and fun, whereas the other is uncolored and could "lack" in bass. I've yet to find anyone who couldn't tell the difference.

Oh, and I felt like dropping this here.

Well, it is fine to believe that, but if you go for what Cowon want you to believe: that they are audiophile, you will have: audible bass roll off, higher distortion, and narrower channel separation.

Of course, you will have an okay EQ and some special effects.

Marketing is hardly indicative of anything real. Apple don't advertise SQ while beating most players on the market for things other than EQ. Scum companies (see what I did there) pretend to be 'audiophile', sell cheap stuff top people and reap a following dependent on the marketing.

Any of the players here will sound nice, but if you don't go iPod (and I expect you not to), I would go Sony. The Cowon doesn't have the output needed to make the FX1000 sound its potential unless you use an amp.

You'll realize your mistakes like I did one day.

You keep using this over and over to try and prove my inferiority, yet you fail to mention that I couldn't have possibly given an accurate review of the RE0s seeing as:
a) I didn't like the iem feel, which is really the main reason why I returned it.
b) THEY DIDN'T FIT PROPERLY and I told you this a thousand times. It was basically like putting your earphones only part-way in and listening to music. I wasn't getting all the sounds. Hell, I could barely hear the bass, if at all. I even said that if they HAD fit properly, they would have been better overall than the PK3. But the PK3 provides just the right amount of bass for me, is relatively cheap, and ultimately, I didn't want to keep spending money on tips and all that, so that's why I went back to the PK3.
