So today we were in Government and as usual it was boring as fuck. Nothing was happening, no one was doing any work, etc. So I pulled out my 32GB Cowon S9 Titanium Edition (/namedrop) and started browsing through some of my stuff.

All of a sudden, this Korean stoner guy that sits next to me asks me what it is. So I tell him "Oh, you know. It's like a Zune HD, but better." So he's all amazed by it and asks me if he can play around with it for a bit.

In the past, I was always very protective of my music. I didn't want anyone to know what I was listening to for fear of being made fun of. But I've gotten older, I've stopped caring about such stupid things, so I let him browse through my stuff.

He was amazed that I had some Girls Generation and f(x) in there, and I guess that won me some brownie points with him and his other Korean friends. He said he was gonna look into getting one.

Feels good man.

PS: He asked me if I was Japanese.

Lol. The only thing S9 does better is EQs and having multiple UIs. The ZHD has some incredible UI. The only downfall is the lack of hardware buttons and having to use a software, but it's honestly a better value for the money.

I know you didn't ask me, but I have good experience with both, unlike War.

I'd give it a solid 8 out of 10. It has constant firmware supports, probably the best EQ on a portable device, drag and drop, AMOLED screen, User created interfaces, 55 hours of advertised battery life (My friend's test achieved around 43 hours) for music, decent audio codec support (But lacks AAC), drag and drop videos work fine too and has some fuckwin video quality (Thanks to the oled screen)

Cons are that the sound quality is severely overrated everywhere, the touch sensitivity is nowhere near an ipod touch or a zune hd, no wifi, laggy picture browser and I find it to be too pricy for what it's worth.

Dedicated music and movie player for 300 dollars? Why don't I just grab an S:FLO2 for much less:? Superior SQ with MKV support? Why yes, I think I will buy it.

That's not true at all. The difference is negligible, and certain user interfaces feel as snappy as the Zune/Touch interface.

There's user-created picture browsers that work much better than the default.

Well, that's your opinion, but the pricing is on par with the other competitors on the market.

Gee, maybe because it doesn't have an OLED screen, wifi, battery life sucks hairy balls, and both sound chips are mediocre at best?

Trollpicana just likes to shit on the S9, it's an amazing product and certainly the best PMP I've ever owned. If you really care about apps, then go for a Touch. If you are actually willing to pay for a Zune Pass, don't mind "renting" music, and are interested in taking advantage of the 720p out, then the Zune HD is a much better choice, I'd say. But if not, then Cowon S9 is the way to go.

Sound quality may be subjective, but forcing you to use an EQ isn't audiophile. It sounds alright, but I honestly thought it wasn't that far off from the ZHD. The enhancements sounded artificial to me. I think I hear more than a person who couldn't tell the difference between the Yuin PK3s and the Head-direct RE0s besides the bass. You said you love treble, didn't you? You do realize RE0s beat even the all mighty IE8s, Shure 530s, and most of the top tiers in terms of treble? Why could't you notice the difference?

And as for touch sensitivity, are you serious? You're arguing that it's snappy as a ZHD or an ipod touch? Bravo man, bravo. Yes, the S9 is definitely good as the ZHD or ipod touch. It's exactly why some people in the world still want it to be as good.

Yeah, even with the user made picture browser, it's not as good as the ZHD's fast and accurate browser. It blows it out of the water.

Yeah, you're paying 260 dollars for an ok audio and a good video player. The competitiors can do much more. What makes the iPod touch sound worse to your ears? Oh! Is it because the biased reviewers who don't know much about what they're talking about think it sounds bad? Well, why don't you go buy some Bose headphones at full price and enjoy it? Or go spending 499 on the Shure SE530s.

Zune HD's sound isn't better than the S9. I admitted that. Instead, it offers the smoothest UI I've ever used. It's build quality is also better than the S9. The S9 is made from plastic and Gorilla Glass, while the Zune HD has an aluminum brushed back with the gorilla glass covering the front. Plastic, or lightweight metal? Hmmm.

The only real advantage of the S9 is that it has drag and drop, which the S:Flo and the Sony X does too.

Speaking of the S:Flo, you heard that from ONE PERSON. DFKT does indeed have experience, but he's more into fun sound more than anything else. His review of the IE8s prove it. Do you even know what that means? Well, do you? DFKT maked fun of Final Audio products for being overly expensive and says it's not worth paying that much for it. AND YET, HE HAS ONE HIMSELF, MY MY MY. One person's opinion = everyone's opinion. The review sites? What about them? You honestly believe a website that gave two completely different reviews for the same products?

Oh, and did you know what the Cowon also uses a wolfson chip too?

Do you REALLY need "55" Hours of battery life for music? You may use it at school, and bring it back. You can just let it charge over night. It's not that hard.

Let me ask you this. Why do the audiophiles on head-fi buy ipods, when you can have superior Cowon sound? Why are they still a small number among the audiophiles? Why would they do that? I mean, surely, an entire community of audio enthusiasts should use the almighty sounding Cowon S9. Why would people say that the S9's sound didn't impress them? Why, there's quite a few people out there you know. Seems to me, you're just denying it without realizing it. Shigzio is a respected member of the forum with over 2000 posts. He doesn't like the sound of the S9s for being metallic and artificial. Does that mean he's a liar, even though he used cowons, sansas, ipods, zunes, and a whole bunch of others? Not to mention, he has the holy grail of IEMs, the JH13Pros.

AND BECAUSE YOU LIKE IT SO MUCH, ANYONE WHO SAYS IT'S OVERRATED IS AUTOMATICALLY WRONG.YOU MAY HAVE USED OTHER PRODUCTS FOR AN HOUR OR TWO, BUT I GOT TO USE BOTH FOR OVER A DAY EACH. THAT'S THE CONCLUSION I CAME TO, AND NO MATTER WHAT YOUR OPINION IS, MY OWN OPINION IS NOT GOING TO CHANGE.

Shitty software is shitty, and the S9 does not expect you to deal with shit to enjoy it.

Zune software/iTunes for Windows can go eat battery acid.

Also, portable movie players are for suckers.

I sucked up my pride and forced myself to narrow stuff down to put on my 8GB iPod Touch. :x
Now it's just up to narrowing down to a MP3 that has a pretty nice UI and isn't a total crapfest trying to import music, etc etc.
