I have been watching the hacking scene for quite some time now and i think it's the perfect time to get on board with the release of a rednand.

I haven't turned my WiiU on for about a a year and a half and i think it's on 5.4.0 (not 100% sure)
I am a huge Zelda fan and purchased twilight HD the day it came out but haven't even opened the box as i didn't want to update my WiiU.

But it now looks like i should update to 5.5.1? I don't have a game disc with that update so i would be using the official console system update online.

What are people's thoughts?

Do you want to get access to RedNAND developments and shit the instant they come out rather than waiting for backports?

Then go update you fool. Update while the newest update is still 5.5.1.

YES! update to 5.5.1...you get USB game loading, RedNAND (which allows for pirated DLC).....update to 5.5.1 before it's too late! (if Nintendo pushes out an update, your only hope is to have one of the very few games that have 5.5.1 update.....its not like the Vita or PS3 where you can update to certain firmwares using USB)

Thanks so much guys, after reading your replies I updated to 5.5.1.
I haven't ready enough about RedNand yet and Installing games onto a USB hard drive (I'm used to 3Ds with its emunand and .cias and the originalWii with loadine using games direct from a hard drive without installing?)

But I can now finally play Twilight Princess until I read some more about what's going on!

Since the brazillian method came out and made online possible i was wondering the same thing and was about to ask the same question.

Just to be sure: 5.3.2 is no longer considered the "golden" OFW? Should everybody update?

Last question... is firmware related to NAND? I mean... should i create a backup nand while in 5.3.2?
Thanks guys

5.5.1 is the best firmware because you can use iosu exploit.
You can't backup nand.
Everyone should update before its late

You can't backup nand.

You can, in fact, back up the NAND by following this guide. Just don't follow the parts including and after copying fw.img to the SD card.
I guess it also includes the signature patches, but isn't that a good thing? I think that means you can't restore it to SysNAND, though...

Doesn't iosuhax need 5.5.1 and older firmwares are untested and likely won't work?

5.5.1 is most likely the final update for the Wii U since Nintendo is no longer making anymore of them. Its been on that firmware since January of this year.
Tho it will be wise to enable tubehax just to be safe before powering off the console

Oh, yeah, I think you're right. There's probably still a way to hardmod the Wii U and dump the NAND that way, though (except all I can find is how to dump userdata).

Nintendo are still making the wiiu that was a rumor that went about last week but Nintendo have said they have no plans at the moment to stop making them. Also it's widely believed that a new system update will come out in March just before the new zelda game arrives. And even if Nintendo did stop making the wiiu it does not mean they would not bring out an update look at the Nintendo Dsi it got an update over two years after they stopped making it.

Wii U ending is now official its no longer a rumor, but you guys probably know by now since theres a new thread about it
