Have you had any experience shoplifting? Do you do it actively?
Any stories about your experiences?
What are your motivations?

Shoplifting aka stealing is extremely common nowadays. I’m curious as to how many people actually do it-

Keep in mind, this isn’t a thread to help people out or give tips. I’m not encouraging any of this activity either. This is purely out of curiosity.

I went to the movies with some of my friends for the first time. Before the movie, we went to a local convienence store to "buy some snacks". I grabbed some snacks fully intending to go to the register while they snuck a couple bags in their pockets or shirt. I ended up buying my own stuff because I don't want a fine for a couple bucks worth of stuff.

I think I remember they paid for like one item to make it seem like they weren't being sketchy. I would say life can be hard but they both ended up being drug dealers

Don't look around for other people. Don't think about why you're going to do it. Just do it. It's easier to not think about the process then doing it and worrying about it later.

But i guess deep down i'm just a sociopath. The fun is when you go through the excitement not the lead up to it. But as they say, don't do it's bad!

Feels like the OP is a cop and trying to get people to confess /s

But about the topic, instead of shoplifting, when a little kid, I'd go to the mini-market we had in the neighborhood and I'd buy small things on my "tab" then confuse the clerks claiming I paid my tab off to a different clerk, god they were stupid, total unpaid things were like 120€.

I didn't mean to, but once when I was a kid, my mom realized we weren't able to afford groceries, so we left the cart in the middle of the store and started walking out. I didn't realize until we were in the car, but I'd kept holding onto the candy bar I was going to get the whole time, and forgot to put it back.

Loogi definitely trying to get us to confess to our sins :P

While I would never, shoplifting is one of those smaller crimes where I just think, "eh, whatever". So long as it's like, Walmart and not some small store. I do think it's a slippery slope, though.

Walmart definitely deserves it.

Let me just shoplift that 70" TV from Walmart then since it's ok to do it to them:P

Absolutely. I suppose they're also the kind of place that would expect that kind of mentality, too. I know they have cameras on the exits and they tend to flag you down for receipt checks, but all you need to do is look unassuming, probably not have a large hoodie, and walk with confidence.

EDIT: and buying at least one item diffuses a lot of suspicion.

Where I grew up people shoplift all of the time. I never did (mostly because I am a naturally very anxious person).

Anyhow a few of my buds were caught before. One for stealing a dvd and one for stealing a chocolate bar. The first guy was young at the time and received some light punishment, the second guy was an adult and just never appeared in court (probably has a warrant, but he moved states).

Things I have personally known someone to shoplift include: fire crackers, candy bars, chips, alcohol, sandwiches, hex bugs, yu-gi-oh cards, brownie mix, and nintendo DS styluses. We are talking hundreds of dollars of merchandise by many many people and very few ever caught.

The situation is ridiculous, but in the US it's cheaper to accept some theft than to hire good security most of the time. My pal who got caught with the DVD was at Target, which as you may know is one of the few stores who still take theft seriously.

I once witnessed a woman trying to shoplifter a frozen turkey by sticking it under her top. She then proceeded to waddle towards the front door where she was stopped by the shop security. She tried to pretend she was pregnant and I heard one of the guards saying yep you are about to give birth to a frozen turkey any second now :rofl2:

You laugh. But work retail once and under Walmart. All they talk about is how much money they make. I mean it's great they're going up to 15 usd per hour but good grief.

Dudes get the hell out of here. "Homebrew" shouldn't be a gateway drug to crime.
True, but we're sane people who talk about something and don't follow through you know. Using that good ol' noggin, something that you've never heard of.

$15 is the minimum wage isn’t it?
Well
It is in California at least-
Not sure about other states
I use to work for 8 to 9.50. So 15 is great.
