I've only ever found one shiny other than Red Gyrados myself and that was Nincada on my 4th run through of Ruby which means I now have a shiny Ninjask and Shedninja.

My brother's mate has a shiny Whismur and I think he encountered a Shiny Rattatta the other day so it isn't entirely impossible but you just have to keep playing. Although with Nincada and Whismur they were both found very early on in a replay.

according to serebii the change of getting a shiny pokemon is getting larger when you start chaning.... maybe you could try that.

The first shiny I saw was a Stantle in Crystal but I only had my level 100 team and 1 pokeball so even my weakest move KO'd it. I think that was balanced put though by when I acidentally cloned my Entei. I did manage to catch a shiny spinda in Saphire which is pretty cool but haven't found any others since.

I also put a clefairy in daycare and got a shiny cleffa.
(this was in crystal also)
I even had a box dedicated to my shinies.(I only had 3):
Gyarados
Tangela

my first shiny pokemon was a shiny golduck i cought in mt moon on pokemon silver, than i cought a shiny krabby in the day care center, like the little water place. got bored and in like 2006 i played silver again cought a shiny pidgey in the first route also i remember getting a shiny geodude in pokemon crystal
ruby- shiny cacnea in the place where u need go-goggles
and in leaf green i cought a shiny parasect in cerulean cave also a shiny moltres(very lucky)
and thats it.

Well.. I've caught Shiny Gyarados in both Gold and Soulsilver.

In Platanium i caught lots of shinies using PokéRadar. I'll list them

I found multiple shinies already, without ever having to resort to cheats or tricks (like the Pokéradar trick). It's just a matter of having luck. My first shiny was a Psyduck, I found it on my copy of Pearl.

I once caught a shiny Noctowl on Silver. When I first saw it I was like "WTF Ash released his Noctowl?!"

Only time, other than the Red Gyarados, that I had caught a shiny.

But I did once have a pokemon that let off the shiny jingle and the shiny sparkles, but was not colored like a shiny.
