Sega is out of the hardware business, but Dreamcast doesn't have to be forgotten. Sega's bringing some Dreamcast games back digitally, starting with Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi.
Both Crazy Taxi and Sonic Adventure's return will be made available through Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network "later this year," with Sonic Adventure arriving first during the "fall."
The games themselves will remain untouched, but Sega's adding -- in their words -- "high resolution visuals," "surround sound," online leaderboards and both achievements and trophies.
According to the released screens, these "high resolution visuals" may include adding widescreen support -- but not always. Crazy Taxi appears to have gotten the widescreen treatment, while Sonic Adventure has not, sticking to the original visual format with padding on the side.
It's worth noting that Sega considers this the "first" set of Dreamcast re-releases, implying more are coming. There are plenty to be demanded. Jet Grind Radio and Chu Chu Rocket, anyone?
Crazy Taxi and Sonic Adventure will both be shown at E3 2010 next week.
