Hardware second wiimote not syncing

I'm having a problem with my wii It's 4.1u softmodded. I have 2 wiimotes and both work fine just not at the same time, for some odd reason it will only allow the 1st player wiimote to connect. I've tried synicing them up all the different ways, pressing 1+2, hitting sync on controller then wii, hitting sync on wii then controller, trying to sync both up simultaneously. I've also read that resetting it by holding in the sync button on the wii for 20 secs could also fix it but no go.

I can't seem to find any other information on how to fix it or what's going on, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

what i do is use mario kart wii syncing

It works.
Maybe the games you are playing are only 1player.?

thanks for the reply, I don't have mario kart but I've tried wii sports and a few others. The thing is even on the wii home menu it will not let me sync up 2 controllers at once there can only be a player 1
