Hacking SDF Question

I have a save for Fire Emblem on my retail cart and want to put it on my backed up Gateway ROM. When I select the FE Rom and then open SDF, it says "CTR Card broken". Is there a fix for this so I can import my Retail cart save to ROM? Thoughts appreciated

I heard that SaveDataFiler doesn't work with cartridges
I personally didn't have any luck transferring my FE save to my rom using the Gateway menu.
